My goal is to stage my critically-acclaimed play, A CHILD LEFT BEHIND in the theatre mecca of the universe.. New York City!! (Hey, if I can make it here, I can make it anywhere...right?!) I will be in NYC to perform in an amazing new play about the "Atomic Couple" - Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. While in NY, (on my off-nights... I do plan on keeping busy!) I am hoping to perform my play at a theater in the heart of culture, theatre & the Arts. The money that I raise would go towards 2 (TWO) nights to showcase my play for potential theatre producers, artistic directors and of course NY's theatre-goers. Having just recently performed the play at CEDARS SINAI, here in Los Angeles. I am hoping to attract and contact mental and educational health professionals in NY to see the piece. Your support would help make this happen and bring my play, my work, and my story to NY.... !! In advance, I can only say, "Thank you!!" and "Hope to see you in NYC, this summer!!
Risks and challenges
From the very first reading in my future producer (Les Williams) living room two years ago, this play has been an amazing journey that continues on.... Coming across the country and building enough attention for this show in a city that I haven't visited in over ten years will be challenging in a great sort of way. As they say, "Everything is more expensive in NY!" This includes rehearsal time, theatre rentals, house managers, programs, box office and all the other elements of a successful production have to be accounted for but the rewards are great.... I think of the young people (some of whom were on the Autistic spectrum) I met after shows who thanked me for provided them with a voice, the high school students who had dropped out of school only to return to an alternative school to receive their high school diplomas and the grateful parents who felt included as part of a community - most recently at the Cedars Sinai Parents Educational Center where I performed the show as a community event. These are the moments I live for as a performing artist - to not just perform but to enlighten (and hopefully entertain). Bringing this show to NY will have its challenges but the rewards could be great and (as Goethe says, "Until one is committed...."Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
