WE HIT OUR GOAL WITH 23 HOURS REMAINING!!! HERE ARE SOME ADDED STRETCH GOALS:
With 23 hours remaining in the campaign, we have a little bit more time to reach my NEXT LEVEL goal of funding some super awesome music videos. Thanks to the incredible support of 202+ incredible friends and family that made this happen!
- If we can raise $16,000 in the next 23 hours I will be able to pay a top-of-the-line videographer to shoot an awesome music video to go along with the album. Music videos are the best way to spread your music to wider audiences, and great promo material to get gigs, and find sponsors... So this would be huge for me!!
All of my life I have been surrounded, inspired, and motivated by music. I was raised by two folk musicians alongside my two older brothers who are also musicians. Over the years I formed several groups with my friends and family, played guitar for funk/soul bands, jammed to gospel music at St. Mark, and contributed to countless albums and projects ranging from R&B to alt-rock. All of these incredible experiences have molded me into the man and musician that I am today, and I believe now is the perfect time to reveal the man that I have become. When people ask me what kind of music I play, I always have a hard time defining my sound. I am so grateful for the wide variety of influences I've had throughout my life because I believe that is what makes my sound uniquely Aaron Scott Fowler. My new album "These Days" tells my story in a way that I believe is relatable to everyone. From being a boy scared to leave home for the first time, but following the call of a greater purpose somewhere out in this world... To being a man falling in love, and gaining the confidence to chase my dreams no matter how many obstacles there might be. I hope my album inspires others in the way that other music has inspired me. Ultimately, I hope to spread a message of love, empowerment, and gratefulness. However, in order to share my music with all of you, there are still some costs that need to be covered. Good news is that by simply pre-ordering a copy of "These Days" (or one of the other one-of-a-kind perks) you can play an integral roll in its success.
One very important thing to note is that Kickstarter is an "all-or-nothing" platform, meaning if I don't hit my fundraising goal, I will not receive any of the funding.
I began writing some of the songs on "These Days" nearly four years ago. All of my song ideas lived in the notes app on my iPad, and as voice memos on my phone just waiting for the right moment to be brought to life. After years of patiently waiting for the right moment, "These Days' was formed by the perfect storm of life-events. While on a three month tour with En Power & Light I began to gain a sense of what my solo music career would look like. During that time I fell in love with a girl named Hannah Hoetmer who would later become my wife. This series of life-events sparked fire to what would be an explosion of change in my life. To spare you the endless details, I'll just provide a quick list of all the craziness that has happened over the last year or so.
- May 2018 - I finish writing songs for the album, Hannah graduates college, we embark on a 3 month backpacking trip to Indonesia, Vietnam, New Zealand, and Australia.
- July 2018 - Hannah and I get married in Bali.... Hannah drowns my iPad, the only recordings of my songs, and the only copy of my lyrics.....
- August 2018 - We return from our trip and I begin tracking the first songs on "These Days" with my brother, Paul. My iPad is recovered, and the album is saved!
- Sept-Dec 2018 - I'm working all day on tracking, and all night serving tables to pay for the album, van, and impending move to North Carolina. I spill water on my laptop, and all of the songs are nearly lost again.
- December 2018 - Hannah and I buy a cargo van to convert for touring.
- January 2019 - We move to Wilmington, North Carolina... tracking still unfinished for the album.
- February 2019 - I continue tracking the album by myself before my mixing session in March. All while trying to renovate the van for a small tour in March.
- March 2019 - I fly out to Dallas for four days to track + mix "These Days" with Levi Bradford at Noise Umbrella.
- March 2019 cont. - I head out on my first solo tour from Wilmington to Florida (in a half finished tour van)... while frantically planning this Kickstarter... The van breaks down three times...
- April 2019 - I put all of my hopes and dreams in the hands of my friends, family, and fans by launching a Kickstarter.
As you can probably tell.... this album was written and recorded in an intense period of transition and growth in my life. This is where the design concept for my album came from... the idea that everything is linear, no matter how different our experiences, we are the line that runs through them all.
Many of my musician friends know the costs associated with releasing a record, but if you aren't familiar with the costs artists incur to produce their music, below is a list of what I am raising funds for with this Kickstarter.
Tracking: My favorite claim to fame is that my album is funding the births of two babies. I hired my brother, Paul, to help me track this album around the same time I found out he and his wife were expecting a baby. I actually planned on hiring him before I found out... but I like to think my niece/nephew will be receiving some of the funding from this project.
Mixing/Mastering: The second baby funded by this Kickstarter is Baby Bradford from Noise Umbrella in Dallas, Texas. Recording my album is actually the last thing Levi Bradford did before the birth of Van Austin Bradford, and I was actually kind of nervous his wife would go into labor while I was there...
Merch: Nowadays, most people get their music through online streaming services, and want some other way to support you without buying your physical album. The reason I chose leather for most of my merch is because I love working with my hands, and making products out of natural, biodegradable, and durable materials. Selling little things here and there will *hopefully* keep the gas tank full on my tours in the future.
CD Duplication: One of my goals for 2019-2020 is to start touring the house concert circuit as a solo artist. Believe it or not, physical CDs are still super popular at house concerts, and your contribution will help pay for the duplication of "These Days".
Tour Support: The remainder of 2019 and all of 2020 will mostly be dedicated to touring, and spreading "These Days" far and wide. This would not be possible without the recent purchase of my tour van, all of the remodels, and various equipment I need to put on a professional show. All of which has racked up a hefty bill... By contributing to this Kickstarter you will help with some of these costs, so that I can bring my music to a venue near you within the next year!
Music Videos: One of the things that can take a simple song to the next level is a music video. While they aren't necessary to produce an album, they can be incredibly helpful for promotional material, and for spreading your music to a wider audience. I have some really great video concepts for my new songs, and could really use your help to bring those ideas to life.
Album Artwork/Graphic Design: I hired Jessie Cadwallader from JCo. Designs to design my branding, and Hannah Hoetmer to build my website, design my products, and create my album artwork. I'll be relieved when I can finally repay Hannah for all of the times I asked her to move things over one millimeter at a time.
Artists cannot survive on the pennies they receive from streaming services alone - only the top 2 to 3% of creators even make minimum wage from Spotify, Pandora, or YouTube.
- 1 million streams a year on Spotify = $13 a day
- 1.2 million plays a month on Pandora (~2.5% of artists on it) = minimum wage
- 2.4 million views a month on YouTube (the top 3% of channels) = minimum wage
I believe the best way to grow as an artist is 100% organically. By playing show after show, writing song after song, and by gaining genuine fans one at a time. Crowdfunding is an amazing avenue for artists like me to remain solely responsible to themselves and their fans, and build a community of support. With your moral and financial support I aim to consistently produce high quality music, videos, and tours all while continuing to grow this incredible community.
In addition to CDs & digital downloads of the new album, below are some of the other goodies & one-of-a-kind items that you can receive for being a part of this Kickstarter.
If you want a bundle of items that isn't listed in the rewards section, no problem! You can add-on to your pledge in order to receive additional items such as CDs, t-shirts, bar items, leather goods, & hoodies. Visit the Update or FAQ section at the top of this page for more info!
Your credit card will not be charged until the Kickstarter ends & I've hit my goal.
Music is why we're all here, but having some sweet goodies to sport makes supporting this campaign even more awesome. We designed and produced these items at the highest quality so that you will actually use them and have a cool story to go along with it!
There's something to rolling out a big piece of untouched leather and imagining what you can turn it into. Along with Key Organizers and Guitar Straps, "Bar Set", kept coming to mind. Enters the most bespoke bar set not on the market.
I have been fortunate to know some incredible artists in all kinds of mediums. One of which is my dear friend Jered Wheeler. He does some pretty spectacular things with wood and has agreed to craft a few pieces to contribute to the campaign. His handcrafted wooden trays are the perfect addition to my handcrafted bar set to make a truly one-of-a-kind, earthy, and rustic libation station for your home. If drinks aren't your thing, Jered will make you a custom wooden art piece you can proudly display in your home.
I've had multiple backers request the ability to add-on certain items to their existing pledge, so here's what I'm going to do! If you pledged $20 or more & want to tack on an additional piece of swag, simply add the following amount(s) to your initial pledge. **Make sure to message me & let me know which add'l items you are pledging for.**
- Add'l Signed CD: +$20
- T-shirt: +$30
- Hoodie: +$50
- Key Organizer: +$30
- Etched Glass: +$25
- 4x Coaster Set: +$35

As I reflect on the greatness that is our lives it never ceases to blow me away how incredible timing can be. As the sum of my past experiences, I continue to move forward with the understanding I currently have. I'm grateful to be here now, and I look forward to all I can share with you in the future.

Risks and challenges
As with every endeavor, unexpected obstacles can come up. Thankfully, since the recording process is complete, if I hit my fundraising goal I will be able to deliver on all of the rewards I listed. Barring some unforeseen medical event, I will be touring a bunch in 2019-2020. One very important thing to note is that Kickstarter is an "all-or-nothing" platform, meaning if I don't hit my fundraising goal, I will not receive any of the funding.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
