A Game for 2 Players — 30 minutes — Ages 12+
In the game of CASTLES, two players compete across the gaming table to build a Kingdom of cards.
As each player takes a turn drawing from the deck, you'll seek to gather the support of Dukes, Counts and Barons, and attract Champions and Wizards to your Court. As you rise in power, your Nobles acquire Lands and Serfs, you'll add a Wife and Heir to your throne, and move slowly toward becoming the most powerful Kingdom in the land. But wait... your opponent works to undo all you've built, and you face opposition from his Minions and Magick spells, and are forced to Wage War with your Generals and Arms to seal your legacy in stone.
In the end, only one CASTLE can prevail!
Fast paced and fun, the game is quick to learn but challenging to play. While a session can be over in as little as 30 minutes, aggressive play and thoughtful strategy will keep you on the edge of your seat in game after game.
Inside the box you'll find a 6-panel, full-color rule sheet, a red vacuum-formed tray, and a deck of 168 high-quality full-color mini-cards. The mini-cards are 1.75 x 2.5 inches in size. (See all of the cards here.)
CASTLES is a deceptively simple game. What may at first blush seem as basic as WAR quickly evolves into a stimulating strategy game with many different angles and upsets. CASTLES is the first release from AAIIEEE! Games, but we're not new to publishing. Dan Zimmer, the founder of AAIIEEE!, is the publisher of Illustration magazine, and published or co-published magazines such as HorrorShow, ILLO, and more. He has also produced art books on illustrators such as Norman Saunders, Reynold Brown, and H.J. Ward. We're bringing CASTLES to Kickstarter with the hopes of introducing gamers to our new company and concepts, and to assist us in raising funds to help bring CASTLES to life.
Our goal at AAIIEEE! is to create entertaining, innovative, and challenging games, and CASTLES is just the beginning. Our Kickstarter goal is set at $6,000, but this only covers some of the costs related to the manufacturing and distribution of the game. If we're fortunate enough to receive additional funding, your generosity will help offset more of these costs and enable us to share CASTLES and all of our future games with even more people.

Unlike some other games, CASTLES doesn't benefit from expansion sets or add-ons like figurines, additional cards, or dice. It's a complete game as it was designed. We thought of adding t-shirts, ball caps and so on, but instead of all of that we're keeping it simple and focusing on the game. If you like what you see, you'll receive this game when you pledge your support!
Risks and challenges
Any project that involves the printing and packaging of an item overseas, to be delivered on a boat to a port in the U.S., is bound to run into a few delays along the way. Fortunately, the folks here at AAIIEEE! have had many years of experience working with Chinese manufacturers, and have imported tens of thousands of copies of books and magazines without a hitch. We have long standing relationships with our suppliers, and a proven track record of producing high quality products on time and under budget. This project is in capable hands.
CASTLES is completely designed and ready to go to press today, so once the funding is in place we'll be off to the races!
