About this project
A Game for 2 Players — 30 minutes — Ages 10+
In the game of CASTLES, two players compete across the gaming table to build a Kingdom of cards.
As each player takes a turn drawing from the deck, you'll seek to gather the support of Dukes, Counts and Barons, and attract Champions and Wizards to your Court. As you rise in power, your Nobles acquire Lands and Serfs, you'll add a Wife and Heir to your throne, and move slowly toward becoming the most powerful Kingdom in the land. But wait... your opponent works to undo all you've built, and you face opposition from his Minions and Magick spells, and are forced to Wage War with your Generals and Arms to seal your legacy in stone.
In the end, only one CASTLE can prevail!
Fast paced and fun, the game is quick to learn but challenging to play. While a session can be over in as little as 30 minutes, aggressive play and thoughtful strategy will keep you on the edge of your seat in game after game!
Inside the box you'll find a 6-panel, full-color rule book, a red vacuum-formed tray, and a deck of 168 high-quality full-color mini-cards. The mini-cards are 1.75 x 2.5 inches in size. (See all of the cards here.)

CASTLES is a deceptively simple game that quickly evolves into a stimulating strategy contest with many different angles and upsets. While there is a good bit of luck in this game, a crafty player can reach victory through pure strategy, no matter HOW bad your run of cards may appear. You're always on the edge of your seat looking for ways to turn a little luck into the opportunity you need to win. You can get a look at CASTLES in action by watching the following video, but you should DOWNLOAD THE RULES HERE first to understand the ins and outs. The video will make more sense if you follow along with the rules. Visit the AAIIEEE.com website for more details about the game!
CASTLES is the first release from AAIIEEE! Games, but I'm not new to publishing. I'm Dan Zimmer, the founder of AAIIEEE!, and the publisher of Illustration magazine, a publication devoted to the Golden Age of American illustration art. I'm bringing CASTLES to Kickstarter with the hopes of introducing gamers to my new company and concepts, and to assist me in raising enough funds to bring this game to life. I'm a company of one person, so I need all the help I can get!
My goal with AAIIEEE! is to create entertaining, innovative, and challenging games—and CASTLES is just the beginning. My Kickstarter goal is set at $2500 to cover a bare-bones initial print run of the game. If I'm fortunate enough to receive additional funding, your generosity will help offset more of my costs and enable me to advertise and distribute CASTLES to a much wider audience.
Thank you so much for your support!
Interested in adding a playmat to use with your CASTLES game? I've partnered with GripMat, who are running their own Kickstarter campaign right now, to provide a high quality 15 x 15 inch CASTLES GripMat as an ADD ON to your pledges. If you'd like to add a GripMat, add $20 to your pledge. Add an additional $15 for a second GripMat. If you'd like to print your own, I've created a PDF that you can download here. Please let me know if you have any ideas about the layout and format of this GripMat, and if you think it can be improved!
Risks and challenges
Any project that involves the printing and packaging of an item overseas, to be delivered on a boat to a port in the U.S., is bound to run into a few delays along the way. Fortunately, I have had many years of experience working with Chinese manufacturers, and have imported many thousands of copies of books and magazines without a hitch. I have long standing relationships with my suppliers, and a proven track record of producing high quality products on time and under budget.
CASTLES is completely designed and ready to go to press today, so once the funding is in place we'll be off to the races! I hope you will consider supporting my first effort, and with any luck there will be many more games to come in the months and years ahead! My second game, COMIC SHOP, is almost complete and will be going up on Kickstarter soon.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
