Edit: 2 people have snagged characters in the game (One $250 pledge and one $500 pledge), so it's now sold out! Sorry! $500 still gets you producer credit, but no longer includes a character in the game (except for the one person who already got it)! Thanks for understanding!
Original Post: Resonance is an ambitious retro-styled point-and-click adventure game that brings a mature storyline and some innovative new gameplay to the genre.
Complemented by some awesome art and fantastic music, the game should hopefully bring back the challenge and immersion of the classics, while updating the user interface and design to improve the gameplay experience all around. The game will be lengthy, challenging, and deep, with multiple ways to approach problems to fit different play-styles.
A particle physicist’s mysterious and spectacular death sparks a race to find his hidden vault and claim his terrifying new discovery. The player will take control of four characters whose lives become entangled in the search for the scientist’s vault. They will have to learn to trust each other and work together to overcome the obstacles in their way and to keep this new and powerful technology out of the hands of a dangerous organization.
-Four playable swappable characters
-A twisting, riveting storyline
-Unique long-term and short-term memory systems
-Cheat death by rewinding time
-A unique and intuitive interface
-All the love and care you’ve come to expect from an independent adventure developer
This game is being funded entirely out of my own pocket. The risk is completely worth it to me because of my passion for this game. However, I'm just a regular guy with a wife, two kids, and an 8 to 5 job. My time and financial obligations outside of working on the game are substantial, so keeping this project funded is no easy task!
Luckily, I've gotten together a great team to help me. Shane Stevens (Minds Eye, Limey Lizard) is a master of pixels and is putting out a huge amount of pixel-perfect animations for characters and objects in the game. Nauris Krauze is producing tons of high-quality background art. Nikolas Sideris (A Tale of Two Kingdoms, Linus Bruckman) is rocking the soundtrack and sound effects. Deirdra Kiai (T.G.T.T.P.O.A.C.S., Chivalry is Not Dead) is helping out writing dialog. And Joshua Nuernberger (La Croix Pan, Boryokudan Rue) is providing additional art.
And I can assure you, all these people are greatly underpaid!
I myself am doing all the designing, most of the writing, all of the coding, and a lot of additional art and special effects and am currently a couple thousand in the red on the project! (But like I said, well worth it for the quality that we're producing!!!)
We're currently in a big push to finish a substantial portion of the game in time for submission to the Independent Games Festival so, the first immediate need for additional funds is to foot the small entry fee and help me pay for the ratcheted-up work schedule so we can meet the deadline!
So that's the small $150 goal of this page. Any money beyond is icing on the cake! It will go to paying the team members and improving the game. One team member, in particular, has been working for free out of enthusiasm for the game. I'd like to get that team member some monetary compensation!
I'd also like to improve the game's presentation overall by getting an intro cinematic and a professional-looking trailer. These things cost money that are not in my current budget.
Finally, I'd like to use some money to spread the word! I'd like to spend some money on marketing when the time comes (something not currently in the budget). Also, I'd like to be able to travel to indie game conventions and events to help spread the word and do all the networking necessary to make something like this successful (also not in the budget!).
Mainly, I want to make the game as good as possible, and make sure that as many people can play it as possible. I'd appreciate any help you can offer!
Heh. I'm of the "It's done when it's done" persuasion. And I'm working on this game when I'm not busy with my full-time job, wife, three-year-old daughter, or four-month-old son. I work late into the night most nights, pounding away at the game's code, or giving directions to the team. In short, it's hard to say when Resonance will be completed.
The game's release is a long ways off. I hope to have it done in 2010, but cannot promise that I'll hit that goal, however, I'm trying my best to get it done on that timeline, and I know it won't be too much longer than that.
Of course, if you pledge, say, $60,000 or more, I can promise that it'll get done a lot faster! :)
Thank you so much for your support! I'm really excited to share this game with everyone!
