Hello World (but mainly fans, friends, and family)!
Since releasing our first album in 2007, we've spent a lot of time learning how to be a better band... writing better songs, playing to our strengths as musicians, and really striving to do what we do the best we can do it. It's been quite a learning curve -- at times more like El Capitan in Yosemite than a rolling hill, but a curve nonetheless. And the end result is that we’ve accumulated more than enough material for a second album, which reflects this growth, and we want everyone to hear it!
Now in a perfect world, we would be able to get a major label to hear some of our new songs live and say, "Here's some money, go make the record you want!" But unfortunately, the labels that have seen us say that although they love what we are doing, it would be a whole lot easier to market us if we fit into a “box,” with top selling artists like Coldplay, or The Fray. The problem is, Coldplay and the Fray are out there doing what they do just fine, and we'd much rather be The Quiet and stay true to our influences, like Elton John, or Van Morrison, than trying to fit in or compete with others.
Well, thanks to Kickstarter, we can raise funds to record our own CD without the major label. We can take all these great tracks we've been piling up, narrow them down, and try to show that good music is good music, box or no box. And the best part? We can do it with the help of you wonderful people.
When you make a pledge for the project, we get closer to our fundraising goal of $10,000. If we hit our goal in 60 days, your credit card will be charged, and we'll start making our new record. In return for your pledge, you get all kinds of cool prizes, as listed out on this page. However, if we don't hit our goal in the time allotted, no one is charged anything at all, no prizes go out, and life marches sadly onward. In a way, it's like a really pimped out album pre-order, except the album hasn't even been made yet.
We've been lucky enough to have wonderful support from all of our fans, friends and family for a number of years now. And so we feel a bit like Dumbledore in the last Harry Potter film when we say, "Once again, I must ask too much of you." But the bottom line is, we want to make a second album that showcases how far we've come as a band, and that reflects the band you come out to see at shows. We want to make an album that sounds exactly like we want to sound, instead of rewriting everything so it can fit into some other band's box.
But we can't do any of that without your help. So make a pledge today, and together we'll make a brand new, fun-filled, emotionally draining Quiet CD!
Please pass this on to all your friends and family!!
