Off to Mastering
Happy July to everyone,
Here in Nashville we finally broke from all the record 100+ degree days and have finally gotten a bit of rain. I'm off to Lexington, KY and Knoxville, TN for shows this weekend as soon as I finish this email.
I've been in and out of town since the last update playing shows and that (plus the studio & engineer being very busy) has drug out finishing the album. But last week we finally managed to get back to putting those last few finishing touches & making those final few tweaks. And now the album has been sent off to be Mastered at Yes Master here in Nashville. Usually that takes a few weeks and in the mean time I have been focusing in on the artwork. I have found an artist in the UK whose created some wonderful artwork that we're using for the album.
Many of you contributed to my last album 'The Big Show' as well. And you may recall that after we finished the recording and artwork it was several months before the album was ready. I was in discussions with two labels for distributing the album and so it didn't get released till after it was worked out with Lower 40 & Blue Rose Records. I do not know if I will pursue a similar path for this project yet. Thus far, I've kept just enough in the budget to manufacture the cd on my own this time If I wish. So more on that soon.
Attached is a song called "Santa Cruz Ridge". I wrote that chorus 12 years or so ago (originally calling it Santa Monica Ridge..yet ironically I wrote it on an East Coast Beach). The rest of the song was a throw away, but I always loved the chorus. I spent a month out in Santa Cruz several years ago and wrote a new song that originally was missing a chorus...till that old one popped back into my head. We recorded this tune late one night in March at Eastwood Studios. It's all live, no overdubs and no editing. We just left this one as it was. Hope you enjoy.
