My London based music promotion company, Cheeky Promo, is arranging a three day long Arts Festival. This Arts Festival is quite personal for me as it’s proceeds will divided in half and donated to two charitable organizations that have helped me in the past.
I’m involved with music because as a child it was not only a positive outlet but a necessary one, an imperative one, as it was a way for me to connect to others. Music is quite literally my first language. When I was young (3 or 4), I was not talking so had speech therapy. That didn’t have much impact so I moved to music therapy. Music therapy helped, and music still helps me, to communicate and connect with others, to express / be myself, to be part of the world.
I asked my mum about her memories of my speech & music therapy. She was relieved that I speech therapy gave me something constructive to do, that I had a way of communicating sounds using signs and pleased that someone was trying to help. My mum thinks that *I* felt pleased that I could communicate even if only with making sounds.
She was relieved that there was an alternative to speech therapy, which seemed to have achieved all it was going to achieve, amazed by the effect music therapy had on me, delighted that I was enjoying it so much, hopeful that it was going to work much more that speech therapy
My mum thinks that I was very happy to be communicating with ‘musical’ speech, enjoying the ‘music’ making very much, excited by the music, emotionally charged because it was good fun and something you loved able to ‘talk’ in a language instigated by me i.e. I was ‘in charge’ with my therapist following my lead free to ‘shout’ because I’d found my voice
"Nordoff Robbins is the UK's leading private provider of music therapy services. Our trained network of music therapists work with people of all ages and with a range of conditions. We deliver thousands of music therapy sessions per year in care homes, day centres, hospitals, schools & our own centres. We are also developing a range of other music & health projects aimed at bringing music to more & more people in local communities.
In late September 2011, I was involved in a road accident, and was treated by the staff of the London's Air Ambulance. I was happy to go back to the Royal London Hospital (the helipad is on the top of it) and thank them some years later (see attached photo of me and one of the doctors who helped me).
My treatment (broken jaw, a dental 'bridge' that fell out 10 times, a piece of bone taken from my right hip and put in my lower jaw to enable implants) was finally completed in April 2015. I arrived at a place where I'm thankful it wasn't so much worse, and that I'm still here to share my passion for music with the world; the accident showed, reminded me that I HAVE to... The Service recently acquired a 2nd helicopter so it could more effectively service the whole of London. Whilst the doctors are funded by the NHS, the helicopter itself is run by the charity.
3) Officially Launch Cheeky Promo
This will be the first official Music Festival that Cheeky Promo will be organizing. The whole message for this Festival is to “share your voice” and “providing opportunity” all while connecting with each other, creating a community, and network as we serve for a greater cause. I was given the opportunity to continue sharing my passion with others, and I want to help artists to help each other, all while helping the charities that help us!
4a) Introduce those who are - or - wish to be involved (as Accountants, Administrators, Arrangers, Bloggers, Bookers, Business Consultants, Promoters, Event Managers, Artist Managers, Video Directors, Radio Presenters, Roadies. Sound Engineers, Technicians) to the Music Industry & give them the opportunity to be a Team Member of Cheeky Promo!!!
4b) I need a team to bring my vision for this event to fruition! If you are interested in participating in the production of this great event, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
5) Educate people about their options and encourage them to ask questions about their futures — like those posed during at past Fast Forward events.
- The Cheeky Promo Arts Festival will also host Music Industry Discussions, and give Music Related Startups a platform to share their work & an opportunity to connect with Musicians, Fans, Partners, Clients, and Customers. After seeing the work of other Startups, asking questions, being informed how they work, and soaking in some inspiration… I will then introduce Cheeky Promo’s launch of a co-working hub and a VC Firm to advise London based Entrepreneurs to create and build Music Startups (@CheekyStartups / Facebook).
Eto music practice ltd granted online/broadcast rights to the music event. We will assemble a production team and make available a live transmission of the event either online or via broadcast. We will also try and attract sponsors and or advertising to generate revenue. All proceeds from advertising, carriage of the transmission etc. to be donated to London's Air Ambulance and Nordoff Robbins charity.
