A documentarian attempts a film about flowers in spite of a sudden zombie uprising. A festival favorite, we want to release this feature on DVD.
In 2007, a group of aspiring filmmakers collaborated to make a feature film called "Pushin' Up Daisies". While not a zombie movie per se, the movie certainly has zombies in it. It also has clever writing, brilliant performances, gut-busting laughs, and most of all, heart. Also zombies.
Exhausted and penniless, Writer/Director/Producer/Editor Patrick Franklin spent the next eighteen months cutting and re-cutting the film in his one-room Baltimore apartment, finding the time between dishwashing shifts and his construction day job. A nearly-finished film emerged in late 2009, and Patrick and co-producer Andy Rusk began submitting 'Daisies to film festivals. To date, it has been accepted to six, including the Atlanta Film Festival, Dragon*Con, and the SoCal Film Festival. Our little movie has received a great welcome so far, from movie-lovers and zombie-movie-lovers and movies-that-just-so-happen-to-have-zombies-in-it-lovers alike, many of whom immediately asked, "How can I get a DVD?"
So here we are to answer that question: In the great tradition of DIY filmmaking, we wish to make our film available on DVD, both to sell at festivals and online, and to give to famous people we might meet in elevators, including but not limited to George Clooney, Drew Barrymore, Tom Savini, Edward Norton, Mr. T, Michael Phelps, Chad McQueen, Don Swayze, Mike Norris, and/or Soulja Boy. Unfortunately, our coffers are dry, and "authoring" a quality DVD costs a pretty penny. Our Kickstarter goal will fund the design, production, and replication of a limited run of discs. We will also be able to produce a small lot of genuine theatrical posters, both to give away as booty (in the pirate sense) and to use in our unending PR campaign, spearheaded by the film's official website.
We need your help. But give and ye shall also receive. We have lots of great rewards for your contributions. Those of you who contribute at the basic level will become the first owners of an official "Pushin' Up Daisies" DVD. We think it will make a great addition to that perfectly organized DVD collection of yours, sitting proudly on your birch veneer IKEA media shelf next to the likes of "Pulp Fiction", "Putney Swope", and "Puppet Master 3: Toulon's Revenge". But, don't just take our word for it: You can come see the film for yourself at any of our upcoming festival screenings or just take a look at what critic Andrew Shearer had to say about it.
Thanks for visiting our Kickstarter page! If you find our cause a worthy one, please help us spread the word.
