We want to build an open source software platform to share with local Trade School chapters around the world.
233 backers pledged $10,000 to help bring this project to life.

What is a sharing economy without shared decision making power? Trade School is now open source!

Thanks to you all, the new Trade School software is open source!

Connecting an international community dedicated to the power of non-monetary value, artist and Trade School organizer Or Zubalsky conceived of and created software that makes possible a conversation between 11,000 teachers, students, and organizers who participate in barter based learning in 20 dialects in 50 cities.

As an online sharing platform, we are proud that Trade School’s internal structure reflects our public goals of reciprocity between students and teachers in classroom. Trade School is organized by a collective that shares decision making power.

Now, for the first time, Trade School is also built with an open source software that anyone can share and modify, embodying our principles of cooperation and mutual aid. With international organizers giving input from Indianapolis to Athens, Guadalajara to Paris, the software was built with teaching and learning in mind.

The Trade School New York chapter plans to open again soon, when we find a permanent space to host classes. Until then, we will be mailing you all T-shirts and sending you updates here.

Pie Social [& wild dance party] this Saturday, Oct 13th from 7pm til 1am

Want to dance with us?

Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 7:00pm until 1:00am at TreeHaus: 94 Monroe St. bt. Bedford Ave and Franklin Ave. in Brooklyn NY

For the first time ever Trade School New York is open in the fall! We want to celebrate the traditional school season by wrapping up all the brilliant foliage, practical layers, freshly sharpened pencils and crisp apples in a crust and baking them. Yum. Come to a pie social hosted by housing cooperative Treehaus to share YOUR idea of a delicious pie. Sweet? Savory? A delectable swirl of each? Prizes awarded to Most Original, Prettiest, Tastiest and Failure pie-because one person's failure is another person's hangover breakfast food.

Then burn off the calories on the dance floor to the stylings of DJ Make Believe and DJ Lil Lil. You'll be sliding around the floor like a it's a greased pie tin. The last party we had was pretty wild (that's where these photos are from).

Remember we need eaters as well as bakers. People with their own forks and plates get a humanitarian award. Jello shots and $2 beers will be for sale until they run out or we get tired of manning the bar. Finally, wear your pie finest whilst you pie dinest.

Until we meet, check out our classes at, join our FB page at, and let us know you're coming to the party at

New Reward: if you pledge $100 or more, you're invited to a special dinner with backers Sunny Bates, Lisa Gansky, and TS organizers!

Dear supporters,

If you increase your pledge to $100 or more, you'll be invited to a special dinner with Trade School backers like Sunny Bates, Lisa Gansky, and Trade School organizers. Please tell your friends to give $100 if they can, because we have 9 days to raise $4,500... if 45 people give $100 each this week, we'll make it!

Also, we hope to see you on the 4th of July at Industry City Distillery. $10 will get you a feast of two roast pigs, top-secret vodka, homemade pies, and more, with all proceeds to benefit Trade School Everywhere. RSVP for that here:

Thanks again,

Trade School Everywhere

PS: Trade School Barcelona just opened! Trade School Manila and Trade School Bangkok are nearly open, and Trade School Oakland is on it's way.
