*WE"RE ALMOST AT OUR MINIMUM GOAL!! THANKS EVERYONE! If you'd still like to support the garden, and be a part of this circle of awesome donors, please do. Anything we raise over the goal will go straight into the project, allowing us to build more raised beds, plant more fruiting trees and bushes, and lay a firm foundation for a successful year round farm!* THANK YOU!! *
Our project is pretty simple: we are going to teach 50 teens how to grow, market, and sell their own organic produce. At the end of the summer, the profit will be split between all the teen farmers.
Are you thinking
"How are they even remotely qualified to pull this off?" (Good Question, Y'all!)
OUR BACKGROUND:
Tam was a killer salesperson in the advertising industry before coming into the youth employment biz, and has been an entrepreneur since her first play dough business at age 8.
Katrin is a certified teacher, and grows some of the most amazing Valencia tomatoes ever. She paid her way through college as a landscaper and every summer she feasts on organic veggies grown in her own North Portland garden.
As for buy-in, our local community is 100% behind us, providing the land, the water and general cheerleading skills. But, we still need some cold hard cash to get this thing off the ground - literally "seed money".
We need a minimum of $1685 to cultivate the whole 1/2 acre for 4 months.
This includes equipment rental, replacing diseased trees on the property, repairing and replacing existing structures, tools, starters, organic fertilizer, bio-degradable packaging materials (for the Farmer's Market) and covering our booth fee for the Summer Tualatin Farmer's Market.
The space made available to us is currently somewhat jungle like - but we see a jungle of potential and believe that using this space we can teach our Child Army how to make choices that are thoughtful, and come from a concern for sustainability and minimizing the impact of our actions on our local resources.

Please help us pull off this plan - every dollar helps. $1 buys three seed packets, $4 buys a pair of gloves, $10 will get us a produce basket from our local thrift store, $50 will make it possible to rent a wood chipper for the afternoon...
Anything we raise that goes over the goal amount will go towards building more beds, and providing infrastructure for the Farm's year round success.
