Who Is Gilda Sue Rosenstern? From Web Series to Feature Film!

Before Gilda Sue Rosenstern: The Motion Picture!, there was The Gilda Sue Rosenstern Computer Internet Show, a rough-around-the-edges but lovable original web series that debuted on Youtube in 2008. It started as a lark and grew to over forty episodes. Gilda Sue had a lot to say about religion, politics, film, books, helpful household hints, working out, grammar, games, and pretty much everything else in modern American culture. And since she wouldn't stop talking, we decided to make her a movie!

Gilda Sue's Journey to the Big Screen.

We started shooting Gilda Sue Rosenstern: The Motion Picture! with little more than pocket change, raw enthusiasm, and good friends. Fortunately for me, those friends just happened to be highly talented film, TV, and theater professionals who not only believed in the project but believed in it enough to sign on and follow me into battle. Oh, and we apparently had plenty of time, too—four whole years, as it turned out, but who's counting?

Basically, if you want to make a movie and you don't have piles of cash, take heart; you can make up for it with enthusiasm, talented friends, and lots and lots of stubborn naiveté.

What We'll Do With Your Money

We set our Kickstarter goal at $5,000, and we reached that goal with two weeks to spare. Thanks, friends!

That money will go to:

  • Editing (putting it all together).
  • Audio mixing (cleaning and sweetening the sound).
  • ADR (replacing unclear dialogue).

Any money we raise between now and November 9th will help fund the following:

  • Music (What's a party without music?)
  • PR (kissing hands and shaking babies)
  • Festival submissions (sending our baby out into the world)

Here's what we'd like you to do:

  • Watch (and enjoy!) our trailer at the top of this page.
  • Back our project with a monetary contribution. Every little bit helps; every big bit helps a lot.
  • E-mail this link to your rich granny in South Florida.
  • Share our link all over the Internet (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and ask your friends to share it.
  • Spread the word in the real world, too—to anyone who will listen!

Thanks, dear friends!

Love and laughter,

Behind the Scenes

CO-WRITER

Robin Spriggs

Since you've already seen Robin's thumbnail bio in our cast list above, Gilda Sue wanted to take this opportunity (and this space) to explain in her own words how she came to collaborate with the eccentric and elusive Robin Spriggs on what she likes to call "the movie about my very life." Take it away, Gilda Sue!

"When I first began putting down ideas for what would become Gilda Sue Rosenstern: The Motion Picture!, there was one role that, due to its eerie but oddly charming nature, I couldn't imagine anyone playing but Robin Spriggs.

In addition to being an exceptional actor, Robin also happens to be the author of some of the strangest but most beautiful books I've ever read. Plus, he's a magician, and I don't mean the stage kind either. So I sent him a description of the character I had in mind (a sort of interdimensional gypsy-cowboy) and asked if he was interested. Much to my delight (and a little to my dread), he said yes.

Later on, as I found myself vajazzle-deep in the writing of the actual screenplay (my first, I might add) and feeling not a little meshuga, I thought, "Wait a minute, Gilda Sue. You've got Robin damn Spriggs in your cast. Why not wise up and ask him to sign on as co-writer, too?" So I did. And again he said yes. That's when things got really strange—not only in the movie about my life, but in my very life itself. Big shock, I know. But the real shock, especially if you're only familiar with Robin's spookier qualities, was how funny he turned out to be. And I do mean "funny ha ha."

So yes, as expected, Robin Spriggs brought the strange to Gilda Sue Rosenstern: The Motion Picture!, but he also brought a whole lot of hilarity. And magic, too, of course. So color me triple blessed. And triple grateful, too."—GSR
