Over the course of the last three years, Michael Behlen has started an Instant Revolution. He has taken the physical instant images we cherish off of the internet and put them into our hands. He edited, designed, and published 5 issues of PRYME Magazine and three limited edition books under PRYME Editions, a publisher of limited edition Polaroid photobooks and zines.
During this time, 150+ different photographers from 20+ countries have been published on PRYME's pages and website. PRYME has been made possible thanks to the support of readers, enthusiasts, and so many amazing photographers. In celebration and appreciation, Behlen is publishing a beautifully produced softcover inaugural annual journal featuring the best instant work from 2017!
Your pledge not only brings this 170+ page journal to life but also supports analog photographers, indie publishing, and the print medium!
Why are we creating an Annual Journal for Instant Photography?
PRYME runs on the belief that photographs, especially instant ones, should be seen in print as well as on screen, so we made a decision at the beginning of this year to bring you a first-of-its-kind annual journal, one that focuses on the magical medium of Instant Photography.
How will funds be used?
PRYME Editions is created and sustained during 9-5 work breaks, weekday evenings, and weekend all-nighters. It is fueled by our love for the instant medium and our non-photographic day jobs. Until now, our books and 'zines have been funded by ourselves or pre-order and online sales. Financially, our aim until this point has been to break even for each issue. Each issue is priced to cover printing and postage costs, which are high due to the limited number of issues printed. This project, assuming we meet our target, will cover the production costs for what we have calculated will be the minimum number of orders needed to cover these costs. Any amount raised that exceeds our target will be used to promote the wonderful artists featured in this project via targeted social media advertising and getting our journal into retail spaces around the world!
Size: 8x8 Inches
Inside Page Material: 176gsm Uncoated Paper
Cover Material: Laminated Glossy Soft Cover
Though our submissions for this project are still open and won't end until 07/15/17, we are proud to announce that we already have an all-star line up of the instant photography world for this publication that includes: Brian Henry, an experimental art photographer and explorer of urban decay; Daniel Stein, the first instant film astrophotographer; Walter Sans, famous for his 2010 Netherlands Pink Ribbon campaign shot on expired Polaroid chocolate film; Matt Smith, an internationally known surf culture documentary photographer; Herr Merzi , an artistic explorer of nude portraiture shot on expired film; and Bastian Kalous, the current king of the instant film world, among many others.
Risks and challenges
We believe our biggest challenge will be shipping the Annual Journal around the world. We know that even with the best plans in place, there are bound to be some delays or unexpected issues. We know this, as we have experienced most of them before with the 'zines and books we have produced. On that note, we have always overcome them with our commitment, knowledge and work ethic. We are confident that you will receive your copy of the PRYME Edition 2017 Annual Journal as quickly as possible!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
