What if Poker played more like a board game? That's Western Tropic!
Each year, the world’s most elite players gather on a small tropical island located somewhere in The Pacific to play Western Tropic. The eccentric billionaire who organizes this tournament has quite a fondness for the “Old West” and has gone to great lengths to transform the center of the island into an authentic western town.
As one of the players invited to compete in Western Tropic, your goal is to be the first player to reach 60 points and claim victory, fame, and fortune.
3-8 players, 14+, 30-60 minutes of play
Western Tropic uses the same language as Poker but is a completely different game that removes money and player elimination. The game fuses popular tabletop mechanisms like Deck Building, Grid Movement and Take That, with Poker's existing elements of card drafting and memory.
Western Tropic is played with a standard set of playing cards but it utilizes a set of custom components and symbols that give the game far more depth.
The game includes a custom 52-card deck that can be used for any standard card game. In addition to the typical suits you see on a deck of cards, the Western Tropic deck includes suits that remind you of each suit's abilities.
Western Tropic uses a 5x5 grid that acts as a communal, but ever-changing set of cards that players use to create the best possible hand. Much like Texas Hold'em, each player has hole cards that are unique to them. But, the game uses an extra (third) hole card each round that can be traded in, to grant various actions such as moving your character around the grid, or changing the grid, altogether.
The player represented by the Pinkerton card below (top left) starts their turn with three of a kind (sevens). Burning their extra Diamond card allows that player to SWAP two cards on the grid during their turn. After moving one space over, the player's new community cards and hole cards combine to create a Full house.
The Kickstarter-only "Founder's Edition" of Western Tropic will come in a beautiful wood box created by Woodchuck USA. This Minnesota-based company not only produces high-quality wood products, but they plant a tree for every product sold! The custom box will feature the island of Western Tropic etched on top, and this reward will also come with 8 additional Joker cards that will eventually serve as the first expansion pack for the game. There's one other fun secret that comes with this edition that has something to do with the island featured below...

Risks and challenges
My previous 2 Kickstarter campaigns (raising nearly $40,000) were successfully delivered around the world early or on time. With that said, there’s always a risk for delays when manufacturing a game overseas, but I am working with a production partner (AdMagic) who has successfully produced thousands of games and am confident we will be able to meet or exceed expectations on timing and quality. You may also note that the video for this campaign features some early-stage prototypes of components and these do not reflect the final quality or appearance of the final product.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look, materials, and content of the project are subject to change and may differ from what is presented on this Kickstarter page. My goal is to ensure the final product however is better than what you expect. If you do not log in and confirm your pledge within 4 weeks of our notification via email to do so, you agree that your final game may be delivered later than promised.
When you confirm your pledge within the aforementioned 4-week window, you agree that our responsibility to you is to ship your order as entered into our pledge management system and you agree that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment.
If these terms are not acceptable to you, please contact me before pledging and/or reconsider your participation in this crowdfunding campaign. Otherwise, please enjoy!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
