I'm Lauren, and I started Pie in the Park, a yearly pie-baking event held in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
Last year, I ran a Kickstarter project to self-publish a book that includes recipes, tips and stories from 4 years of holding the event.
On Saturday, June 18th, Kickstarter and I will be hosting a pie picnic at the Kickstarter booth at Smorgasburg -- the BK Flea's cool new food market at the Williamsburg waterfront.
They'll be pie, gingham, picnic blankets, recipe cards to take and share and lots and lots of PIE.
I'm running the event as a project through Kickstarter -- only people that pledge will get a slice of the pie (literally), and amateur bakers have the chance to submit their own pies to be eaten and enjoyed by all.
Here's the deal:
Pledge $1, and you'll be one of 15 bakers that commit to bake and bring a pie. You'll get a run of custom-illustrated recipe cards of your pie recipe, and the chance to enjoy 3 slices of pie from other bakers.
Pledge $10, and you'll get 3 slices of these selection of pies, and custom-illustrated recipe cards of the pies that you eat.
There's also a chance to pledge $60 for a "Family Picnic Pack", which includes a picnic basket, gingham blanket, the Pie in the Park book, tea towels from Live from Bklyn and an entire pie (to eat all alone, or to share!) from Gowanus pie shop Four & Twenty Blackbirds.
We'll be filming and taking lots of pictures at the event, so even if you can't attend -- you can pledge to the project and receive a recipe card, and exclusive video/photos from the event.
So -- pledge to the project, join on on the fun -- enjoy a literal schmorgesborg of pie (on picnic blankets!) and pick up some recipes to take home and share.
