Want the game after the Kickstarter campaign finishes? Go to www.genesisoflegend.com and I will be happy to help!
Posthuman Pathways is a transhumanist roleplaying game. It focusses on the changing world and the sacrifices we make in the name of progress. It's about the change, over a single lifetime, of our society and what it means to be human.
Explore what path the world will take. Discover how technology changes the world and alters our species. There are countless paths that humanity might take, depending on what technologies arise and which decisions we make. Every time you play this game, you walk a different path and discover a different future. This game needs no preparation, no dice and no game master. Over three or four hours, you and two friends can discover the future.
Technology is changing us. We are transforming into beings both less and more than human. We abandon the frailties of human flesh and our simple creature comforts. We reach for lofty positions in this new society, and leave our heritage in the rubble of our former world. Our minds and cultures expand, changing how we perceive the world.
In this game, you ask wondrous questions and discover terrifying answers. Every question is a path leading to an increasingly alien future. Discover what your character really cares for and what they will sacrifice. Present your fellow players with hard choices and discover who their characters really are.
- How will technology transform society, and will it be worth the cost?
- What price are you willing to pay to transcend the human condition?
- When tomorrow comes, will you be ready?
Posthuman Pathways is a large game in a small container. I have worked hard to reduce this game to a set of five (5), full-colour and glossy rules pamphlets. Everything you need to play can fit into an envelope. It's easy to carry, fast to ship and beautiful to behold.
Once you back the game, you will find a link to a PDF version of the game under backer update 1. If we fund successfully, this will be released in on DriveThruRPG as "Pay What you Want".
The cover is printed on a large, custom sticker. For some of the rewards, I will put the sticker within the envelope when I send it to you. When you receive it in the mail, you can stick the cover on the front of the used envelope or on a new one, giving you a stylish carrying case for the game. For higher level rewards, the sticker will already be on the envelope.
The Vanguard and Transhuman Hub levels also come with deluxe, soft carrying cases made of fine purple velvet, gold thread and magnetic snaps. Jacey Scott, of Sink or Swim Stitching, will be producing these by hand, in thanks for your higher levels of support. If you saw the awesome dicebags from the Spark RPG, you know what kind of quality I am talking about.
Note that this campaign is based in Canada and thus all tiers are priced in Canadian Dollars ($CAD). Prices are lower than they appear!
The Doorway - One (1) copy of the game and a velvet case to hold it for $25. While the price is a tad higher than that of the Voyager tier, it includes worldwide shipping.
Retailers - Ten (10) copies for retail sale at $35 with free shipping. Verified retailers only, please. You can also choose to add copies of the Spark Roleplaying Game to your order for $15 each. Current retail backers include...
- Leisure Games (Finchley, London, UK)
- Trollune (Lyons, France)
- Endgame (Oakland, California, USA)
- Sphärenmeisters Spiele (Herzogenrath, Germany)
Vanguard - Three (3) copies and a velvet case for each of them for $50. As an added bonus, each of you also gets an electronic copy of the Spark Roleplaying Game.
Transhuman Hub - Ten (10) copies, a velvet case and a series of PDFs for $75. You may also add a copy of the Spark Roleplaying Game by adding another $25 to your pledge.
If we reach the initial goal of $2500, I will be able to publish the game and release it under a Creative Commons, Attribution License. That's not all though!
If we reach $2750... I will provide all backers with a non-exclusive digital expansion that explains how the game can be played with larger groups over a series of different sessions.
If we reach $3000... I will release the game into the Public Domain. Information wants to be free, and I can't stand in the way.
If we reach $3250... All kickstarter backer copies will include printed character cards so you can start playing immediately!
If we reach $3500... Everyone backing this Kickstarter and the Spark Roleplaying Game Kickstarter will get a free copy of a full Transhumanism setting. Explore the alien world and make sacrifices to further your Beliefs. All backers will also get a complimentary PDF copy Spark, in case they don't yet have a copy yet.
Jason Pitre is the game designer and owner of Genesis of Legend Publishing. I have successfully published the Spark Roleplaying Game in early 2013 thanks to the support of my kickstarter backers. Beyond that, I have written for Pelgrane Press, Dangerous Games and Evil Hat Productions. I am also the host of the RPG Design PanelCast, where I distribute seminar recordings to help people improve in game design and publication.

Where Credit is Due
Many other games have contributed to this design. Fiasco contributed to the length of each scene and the general flow of play. Microscope inspired the timeline and how history builds upon itself. Shock: Social Science Fiction helped me focus on how technological changes lead to societal transformation. Durance inspired the hard choices, where you force the voyager to make a difficult sacrifice. Last but certainly not least, Eclipse Phase filled my mind with thoughts of alien, posthuman worlds.
I’m happy to answer any questions. Please feel free to ask them in the comments and I will do my best to give you answers as quickly as possible. I’m also available on Twitter under the name of @Genesisoflegend, where I am watching for any discussion of the #PosthumanPathways .
Risks and challenges
This is my second kickstarter project after successfully releasing the Spark Roleplaying Game last year. That kickstarter campaign was a great success, reaching almost 300% of my goal and hitting several stretch goals. More importantly, I successfully delivered all of the rewards to backers, on time and (mostly) on budget.
Much of the preparation has been to minimize the time and effort after the completion of the kickstarter. While this mitigates the risks, it can't fully eliminate the dangers.
The text has been fully written and edited at this point. We have finished layout, graphic design and all illustrations. This kickstarter is just trying to raise the interest and the funds to print and ship out copies of the game.
There may be challenges with the printers. I am currently planning on using the very professional and experienced printer who produced the The Spark Roleplaying Game, but I have backup options just in case.
The majority of these rewards can be sent in the standard letter-mail, which dramatically reduces the risks, but even letters can be sent to the wrong addresses. If copies of the game go missing, I will be happy to replace them at no cost.
If I suddenly and unexpectedly transcend the human condition, I will be certain to ask a swarm of sentient bees to publish the game on my behalf.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
