This summer 8 year old Xander has found a new hobby, origami! He would love to make a kusudama just for you.
8 year old Xander has found a new hobby this summer, origami. It isn't the hobby we expected him to pick up, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.
Xander started by making origami butterflies, cranes and water bombs but wanted to try something a little more challenging. However, creating a piece from one single sheet proved a little too challenging. Frustrated, he started to think his origami career was over. Children can be a little dramatic sometimes. But, after combing through our origami book he came across the kusudama. It was the perfect 3D challenge without the traditional requirement of folding from one sheet of paper.
The kusudama are made from six sheets of artfully folded paper glued together at the corners to create the lovely sphere. Xander has been using 6" and 3" sheets of origami paper which yield a 8" and 3.5" spheres. I have used a few that are piling up as a decorative center piece, and we are making plans to hang some from the ceiling. They're kind of starting to pile up, which gave us the idea to share!
We're hoping to raise a little money to cover the cost of shipping and, of course, the origami paper. Xander likes to make "families" of Mom, Dad and baby, but there's nothing wrong with a lone kusudama. Which ever you choose, he's excited to share these with you!
