About this project
Seas of Chaos
Man needs the sea. In it's vast mysteries, lies fortune, coin, and danger. Men who dwell in it's chaotic relm pay homage to me, Tiamat, goddess of the sea. Their fate lies in my hands. Through their worship, they are granted clemency, safe passage and good fortune. But no longer. Long years have passed and man has gown fat with wealth in my bountiful waters. My charity, has bred only complacency... ...and from the depths, my wrath. Now, I shall remind them of who I am. They shall cower in the waters of my discontent and serve me, in a terrifying world of brine and danger. They must explore, plunder and fight for it's precious treasures, or meet their end. Only through pain can these mortals again regain my favor. Only here, in The Seas of Chaos.
Players each starts with a simple vessel and gradually gain stats to build their vessel in different categories to develop their strategy to win. Players can upgrade their speed, hull size, defense, and attack. The more treasure you collect, the more you are able to improve your vessel. There are bonuses if you decide to do some trading at the Merchant Port in the form of hidden treasure, or major advantages to your vessel or game board tile placement. Each players has a Pirate Rating that is based on the treasure that you have collected. The first player to plunder up to a Pirate Rating of five, triggers game end. The winner is the player with the highest value of treasure.
Components and Mechanics
The game board is modular. The modular hexagonal tiles consist of different islands that need to be discovered to come into play. The tiles consist of islands that contain treasure, repair docks, merchant ports where you can buy Merchant Cards to help you on your travels, or empty islands that complicate your sailing. There are also open ocean tiles and whirlpools. Whirlpools are the most dangerous of tiles, as the hold you until you resolve the action that you'll find on the Whirlpool Card. Whirlpool cards can be beneficial, but the majority of the effects are negative for your ship or other's. The games starts with everyone on Plunder Island. Once a player starts sailing, they discover the modular game tiles as them move. The tiles are pulled at random from a shuffled deck to keep the game board different for every game. While a player navigates the treacherous waters, they are on the lookout for treasure. Once a player finds their treasure, they will plunder it from an island, and bring it back to the starting Island in which they will bury the treasure for safe keeping.
When treasure is successfully buried, you are awarded additional attribute cubes to make your vessel faster, stronger, and attack better. Each player starts with 4 attribute cubes, and may select where they would like to place them on the three available categories. Attack, Defense, and Speed. Every player starts with a default four sided die, or more commonly known as a d4. As a player upgrades any of the vessel's categories, the die they roll gets bigger, ranging from a four sided die, up to a twelve sided die.
Being attacked will cost you more than just a few damage points. In the even you are sunk, your opponent may steal your treasure, and your vessel might even lose some of the abilities that you have worked so hard to attain!
Where the money will go
After careful research, we decided at the $45k mark. This will give us the ability to produce a minimum of 2000 copies of the game the way we would like, with free shipping within the US. This will also allow us to use the components that we would like, and more importantly, meet the deadline that we want. Even though most of our Pledge Rewards say for April of next year, we would like to deliver by the end of this year if possible. We also had to calculate in pricing to make sure that we would be able to ship to everyone around the world, promotion, copyrights, art, fees, and taxes.
Seas of Chaos will have three different ways to 'unlock' unique stretch goals rewards. We start simple with having you simply go and 'like' our Seas of Chaos Facebook page. The more people see our Facebook page, the more likely we will reach our goal. Why would we not reward you for that?
The second way to unlock more stretch goals, is just by having backers! We have some fun 'Kickstarter' only rewards that will be available in this category.
The third way to unlock more stretch goals, is your traditional 'up and beyond' our initial funding goal. With each stretch tier we hit going past our goal, the higher quality components we can afford to make the game that much more aesthetically pleasing.
Our project quest began over a year and a half ago, and we have had plenty of prototypes through the process. Though we do not have the official 'final' artwork, we plan on presenting what we have, and what is being created as we go. We left much of the artwork to be finalized so we can incorporate our backer input.

We have enjoyed the ride on this adventure so far, and really hope that it continues!
Risks and challenges
While every effort will be made to ship when promised, estimated delivery dates are estimates and are subject to change, unknown external factors may cause delays. Early delivery promise applies only to addresses within the United States, backers from other countries may get their rewards later. All additional costs that may occur because of custom duty or local charges are the backers responsibility. Any Kickstarter Exclusives will only be available here on Kickstarter.
