This Kickstarter is to create fashionable, high-quality apparel that screams social consciousness and we are starting with t-shirts.
When you wear 9HappyPeople you are expressing your voice. We believe through the wearing of our t-shirts people will be able to share stories with each other that inspire, inform, and transform .
Great design, positive messages, and fantastic fabrics – 9HappyPeople t-shirts feel good in every way.
All of our t-shirts are manufactured in the USA and printed in South Dallas, TX. Our t-shirts are made of a high quality tri-blend fabric consisting of 50% polyester, 25% cotton and 25% rayon which gives a soft jersey cotton feel and makes our shirt ready to wear.
Each t-shirt design shares a positive story with the goal of spreading happiness. When someone asks you about the Power of 9, you’ll feel good knowing that you’re helping to improve the community through your voice.
1. Be Happy- Our signature “Be Happy” design is sure to make people you meet smile. This shows our 9 logo & insignia, Happiness is contagious.
2. Power of 9- Our 9 Shield logo tee looks great with jeans or under a jacket. This t-shirt is all about the Power of 9, how our individual voices can come together to make a lasting difference.
3. Love ALL- Share the Love with this classic retro design. This t-shirt is great for anyone that adores the 70’s and wears great.
The money will be used to place the first large scale production order of 9HappyPeople shirts including manufacturing and shipping.
This Kickstarter project is about proving that our individual voices can collectively help improve the state of our society.
Funds raised on Kickstarter for 9 Happy People will go directly to the initial bulk purchase, production and shipping of shirts. Per Kickstarter rules, funds cannot be used for direct charity or cause funding.
Your pledge to 9HappyPeople t-shirt starts the cycle of transformation by creating jobs in local, under-served communities. We are starting in our hometown of Dallas, Texas in the neighborhoods of South & East Dallas.
With your t-shirt purchase, you are supporting American workers at our t-shirt supplier in California. T-shirts are then printed, packed, and shipped from South Dallas adding further jobs in the transformation cycle.
Our giving and community investment model is quite unique. We are donating at least $1 per every dollar of profit that we make.
Through our Community Reinvestment Council, we identify local agencies, non-profits, and other organizations who support the mission of creating jobs.
In addition to hiring from local, under-served communities, 9HappyPeople will cap our company profit at 9% and give/donate the remainder to organizations who assist the unemployed with job training or job placement. This means we will invest at least $1 per every $1 of profit we make as a company.
The typical corporate giving model is 5-10% of profits – our commitment is at least 50% of our profits will be invested back into the community through grants & donations.
We believe that businesses have a responsibility to help improve society.
Amrit and Candice have both spent time in the management consulting world (Accenture, Deloitte and McKinsey) tackling big corporations’ issues. We have also had the chance to build businesses.
We are using our collective skillsets to solve issues in our communities. After speaking with various community leaders, city workers, pastors, and economists the conclusion is simple - local, under-served communities need jobs to transform. We are creating jobs in communities that need help the most.
With the profits from the sale of our products, we will create jobs in two ways:
1. Hiring -- We will create jobs by hiring people from the local community to print, pack, and ship the t-shirts
2. Community Reinvestment -- We will invest the majority of our profits into organizations that help unemployed citizens with job training & job placement in the local community
Your support of this Kickstarter campaign allows us to place an order for the first batch of t-shirts for sale.
Simply put The Power of 9 is what our collective voices can achieve.
Think about your typical day, you likely interact with 9 people throughout the day — what if in each of those interactions you could share a positive message, spread happiness?
If each one of us touches 9 lives and each of those individuals does the same with 9 more individuals, within 9 links we have covered the entire United States!
Put another way, 9 to the power of 9 is 387M, which is just more than the current population of the United States. That’s it — it only takes The Power of 9 … It takes you! We invite you to get to know us and if you’re moved by what we’re doing, join us — this is The Power of 9.
Candice and Amrit are both are very active in the community and saw the need in under-served neighborhoods in some of our largest cities. Whether it was lack of resources, lack of education, lack of available livable wage jobs; the future looked bleak for a few zip codes in Dallas, Miami, St Louis, Chicago, and many other cities across our country we lived in or visited.
In some places, jobs are plenty for the majority and unemployment is as low as 4.7% in other areas (just in our own back yard of Dallas), the unemployment was high as 14% some argued high as 22%.
How can we in a world where there is so much abundance and at the same time people living in impoverished conditions, wake up every day not attempt to do anything about it?
It’s not OK to live next door to a community where the average household income is $14,777 but also have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation. So we were set on tackling this problem. We both have had extensive experience in problem solving for results while working for Accenture, Deloitte and McKinsey. So we viewed this issue as no different as a big company just with a focus on community.
This is how 9HappyPeople was conceptualized, we want to spread positivity and give hope to a community that a better future is near.
9HappyPeople is a for profit business, a public benefit corporation that will sustain its own revenue stream by selling 9HappyPeople apparel. We use the profits from the shirts to donate majority of the profits to organizations that assist community members while unemployed with job training, job placement etc.
You can expect to receive your shirt within 30-45 days after Kickstarter closes.
Kickstarter is an all or nothing platform therefore if we do not meet our goal of $10,000 we receive none of the partial funds that were pledged.
Kickstarter has a verification process; once funds are received from them we can create the shirts.
As a Reminder; Funds raised on Kickstarter for 9 Happy People will go directly to the initial bulk purchase, production and shipping of shirts. Per Kickstarter rules, funds cannot be used for direct charity or cause funding.
We need your help to spread the word!
If you 1) share this Kickstarter on any social media with the #powerof9 hashtag and 2) send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with a screenshot or a link of where you shared it, we will send you a free Power of 9 graphic to showcase on your social media profiles.
You will also be listed on our website as an ‘9HappyPeople Early-Bird Niner’ - one of the very first supporters of 9HappyPeople.
We believe people who support social good should be celebrated and want you to join in the fun of transforming communities!
We have worked through many of the details of sourcing and producing the t-shirts. With launch designs ready, we now need your help to order the first batch of t-shirts for sale.
1. Samples Ready -- We currently have 20+ samples of our t-shirt designs in 3 colors one in every size for fitting. We cannot wait to order our first batch of shirts for our supporters!
2. South Dallas Printer Ready -- The plain, unprinted tees are sent to our printer in South Dallas for printing. She has all of our designs on file and has a machine that can print up to 100 shirts within an hour. Through spreading the message about 9HappyPeople, she has already seen an increase in her sales and we want to give her more.
3. Packing & Shipping Process Setup -- Printed t-shirts are then dried and boxed up for pick up by us to be sent to the 9HappyPeople HQs, my garage, for labeling, packaging and ready for delivery.
Let's be clear! Funds raised on Kickstarter for 9 Happy People will go directly to the initial bulk purchase, production and shipping of shirts. Per Kickstarter rules, funds cannot be used for direct charity or cause funding.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges associated with this project are similar to many other apparel & fashion projects. We rely on a third-party vendor to manufacturer and also print the items.
We have worked with our various suppliers to ensure quantities available, capacity, and also quality.
Another challenge we will tackle is what shirt colors to keep on hand vs. which will be our best sellers. That will be driven by you. The most requested colors on Kickstarter will be the determinant so that we will not have overstock of t-shirts on hand. We want to make what you will purchase so that we can give promptly back to the community.
We are keeping a close eye on every step of the process to ensure this Kickstarter project is a flying success! With our business and project management background, we are confident in our ability to deliver on our promises to you.
