99 CRYSTALS is a revolutionary Shooter RPG with Roguelike elements, unique mechanics, and trillions of possible guns.
About this project
99 CRYSTALS is a project by indie developer Alticurus (Brett Johnston), and musician Solitary Signal (Kai Theobald-Coates). It began as a followup to one of our earlier projects, but quickly grew into something much, much greater.
Our goal was to make a game that:
- Is new and exciting with every playthrough.
- Lets you feel overpowered without making the game easy.
- Plays ultra-satisfyingly, and expects you to exploit it.
- Offers you some permanent rewards so no run is wasted.
- Looks sleek and groovy in full HD quality.
But we took it one step further.
In 99 CRYSTALS, you get to make the weapons you want to use.
99 CRYSTALS transcends the limits of ordinary shooters and roguelikes by allowing you to create your own weaponry, based on the loot you find.
Borderlands 2 features 17.75 million guns with its procedurally randomized system. It is currently the Guinness World Record holder for "most guns in a video game."
99 CRYSTALS features well over 2.8 trillion different guns, in the demo alone.
... So how does it work?
You start each run with only a handful of customizations. Later, as you acquire more weapons, you obtain their customizations for the rest of that run, even if you sell the actual weapons.
So if you get a shotgun, your custom gun can fire multiple projectiles.
If you get a sniper rifle, your custom gun can fire long distances.
If you get a rocket launcher, your custom gun can fire rockets.
If you combine them all, you get some sort of long-range rocket shotgun! The only thing you don't get to decide is the actual damage stat. Based on the customizations you've chosen, the damage of your gun will be calculated for you. Choose wisely!
Up until now, 99 CRYSTALS has only made progress when we've had spare time and the resources to work on it.
Not only do we want to finish the game, we want to polish it and make it as fun as possible.
Currently, the budget comes from a minimum-wage job, but with your support, you can help this game achieve its intended quality and guarantee its release!

If you pledge enough to be able to work with us and develop a gun of your original design, you're awesome! We can't wait to work with you! Just note that Skype will probably be the most reliable and convenient method of communicating with us, and that your design must at least meet some simple requirements (nothing inappropriate, no specific colors, etc.).
Risks and challenges
While December 2015 is our release goal, we know from the very start that we may not finish the game on time. We want to make sure, first and foremost, that we deliver a quality experience that is filled to the brim with content.
The most important thing for us is to make this game fun. If we are funded, we will work to release the finished, polished product as soon as we can!
