Happy Canes Spring 2013
Grandma Pearl is one of the most amazing people I have ever met and the ultimate Jewish Mother. Ever since I can remember Grandma Pearl has been talking to strangers, giving them anything from small gifts, telling jokes or offering unrequested psychic readings. She is a handful of fun I am excited to be working on Happy Canes with her.
Since I told Grandma Pearl that we were going to be putting a Kickstarter campaign together for her on she has been so excited. My volume of voicemails has gone up tenfold. Throughout the campaign I will be sharing voicemails from Pearl.
Project - Spring 2013 Happy Canes
New Seasonal Designs Spring 2013
With these funds we aim to grow our selection of designs from 3 to 10 for the new Spring '13 line of Happy Canes. Each new season of canes will use seasonal flowers. The Spring 2013 line will use Tulips, Lilies, Daffodils, Gardenias, and others (All artificial of course).
Manufacturing New Canes
We will also use the funds to purchase the materials needed to manufacture more Happy Canes,
Perfecting the Craft
We will also work on perfecting the crafting process of how the canes are made. Currently the process is very laborious and dangerous as Pearl makes them by hand. We hope to increase the quality while lowering the amount of labour done by Pearl. Leaving her to what she does best, "Bossing people around."
Happy Canes Story
Q: Who is Grandma Pearl?
A: Grandma Pearl is my 89 year old Grandma. Raised in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Arizona over 60 years ago with her late husband "Irving" and 4 beautiful children Alexis, Marc, Steven, and Gary.
She now resides in Marin County California and lives off of just $1,000/month. This goes to her rent, food, and medical bills.
Q: How did Happy Canes come about?
A: I stopped by her home in early January to visit Grandma Pearl, as any good grandson does. We were talking about what sort of company I wanted to start and how I wanted to be an Entrepreneur. She said that she was an Entrepreneur and told me to wait there while she went and got her product. Out she popped holding 8 "Happy Canes." See picture below.

"A Jewish Mother's Guide to Professional Worry"
Published in 2006 The idea for this book began when Pearls son Marc had been diagnosed with melanoma, and our family gathered to spend time with him.
As everyone continued crying and talking, Pearl once again amazed me. She zigzagged between the nurses' stations, the Doctor's office, back to the nurses' stations, and out into the waiting room. Pearl, who a few hours before had been carried into the hospital after she fainted in the street, was everywhere.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The challenges will be getting the word out. We are spreading the word to friends, family, and anyone Grandma Pearl talks to but the success will be based on how hard we can successfully promote these canes.
Currently Grandma Pearl makes each one by hand, but we will be looking to employ other senior citizen in her community or outsource the manufacturing. Each cane takes about an hour to make. Depending on outside help part of this kickstarter is generating enough cane sales to develop a working supply chane for ordering supplies and manufacturing the products.
