Sans-Détour has a healthy and well-managed financial situation

Editions Sans-Détour is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Throughout all these years, we’ve always had positive financial results (something that’s quite rare in our industry).
Sans-Détour is a company which turns a profit while remaining small. This information is publicly available, as mandated by French law.
We’ve always paid the salary of our employees as well as of all of our artists and freelancers.
As for Ludikbazar, they are only the logistics contractor for Sans-Détour. There is no financial connection between the two companies. If Ludikbazar were to close, we’d simply hire another third party to handle our shipping.

The Confrontation Classic Kickstarter has been in the planning stage for quite some time now.
It’s our first time on an international stage, but we have solid experience with crowdfunding – we’ve always delivered all of our projects (the most recent of which, Les Masques de Nyarlathotep (The Masks of Nyarlathotep) and Le Jour de la Bête (The Day of the Beast) are being finalized with our printer).
Above all, we’ve gathered all the skills needed in order to bring this project to completion and ensure the future of Confrontation.

And we also have a big announcement coming up shortly... stay tuned !

This is a weird and suspiciuos update really! Thanks to all commenters for giving a little context, but still...

At this point I'm really wishing SD cancels this campaign, and start a new fresh one with metal miniatures like Rackham, honestly I don't care about shipping prices (and I'm an international backer) I just want the old Confrontation minis as they were intended, so far they didn't show any good quality picture of factory samples to dismiss any doubt about the quality of the PVC minis.

Wow, this is what l call a communication disaster. I know the intention, but this will put more backers off, than bring new ones in.
I ordered a lot through ludikbazar in the last years. They always had a good customer service and I never had issues with them.
Online shops having financial problems is nothing new at the moment. Everyone gets eaten by amazon these days :-(
SDs business model is a completly different direction then ludikbazars.

    5. Zeelobby on

@Loig it's because it's been pointed out that the same individual owns both and apparently LB has financial issues.

      Uhh... What is this?
A claim after a week of KS campaign stating the company is financially sound...?
      Why?

At least that is how I consider those not involved (or caring about) the flamewar in the main comment section think. I did scroll by the past days since I noticed backers starting to drop. I did notice the person bringing up the issue with the same owner for SD and this LB-company (which seems to be some french hobby-shop with a bit shady looking homepage and doubtful content - like still carrying OLD stuff like Malifaux 1.0 and the horrible plastic Confrontation models).

This is more and more looking like a communications meltdown. Sans-Detour have no one responsible for (or capable of) professional communications. Anyone knowing anything about how to communicate knows that this Update #10 is damaging the KS and SD (and LD probably), since there is given NO BACKGROUND to why this information is even important to communicate.

I'm a backer... so far, but I'm not going to loose €300 because of a poorly managed french company not having someone able to communicate in a proper way. I respect that your company is french and that English isn't your native language, in an INTERNATIONAL KS, someone able to communicate in ENGLISH should be prioritized to avoid the communications meltdown that seem to be the 'comments' section in general. (No, this isn't 'french-bashing'. I'd be equally pissed at someone speaking german, italian or chinese if they couldn't communicate in English).

Hopefully Sans-Detour get their stuff in order, because most times when companies need to point out that their economy is in order... it isn't. :(
Just stop putting out devastating updates like this and focus on adressing what people really care for (and remember that currency differences stand out a lot to those across the Atlantic, meaning that you have a lot higher base pledge cost and levels inbetween Stretch Goals than comparable $-based campaigns). This update just set off a lot of alarms and I will follow development closely and drop if this escalates any further downhill...

now this is a weird update to make...

    8. Zeelobby on

So my still lingering concern is that if both companies are being managed by the same person, it's still an indicator of their ability to deliver. I mean this KS will require a massive amount of shipping, and LB is the shipping company run by the same person as SD is, and it's in financial trouble... I mean that's a red flag. As all seasoned Kickstarter investors know, bad shipping cost estimates and practices cause about 50% of the issues. I really wish the statement had discussed the joint ownership, and what is actually happening with LB.

    9. Chris on

Ah I was busy doing my google-fu and didn't see the posts.

      Thanks

    10. Chris on

OK so a little google searching and it appears that Piotr the Manager of SD(I assume that is french for president of the company) is also the owner of Ludikbazaar.com (at least he owns the internet domain along with 39 others). Now why this is important is I hear that ludikbazaar is in some financial troubles????? If that true? Are they still trying to run that shop in Paris that they have the fundraiser for from 2016?

Can someone correct any of this information?

Maybe they can be a bit more clear before they leave us to have to find the information for ourselves and maybe come up with bad information?

      Hope it help.

@Cybris if it's for me too
i know i'm bad and i'm sorry but at least i try ^^.

      @Chris
Ludikbazar is a french company selling board games online, it was closed recently because of a lack of money and 'sans detours' share the same owner.
But you own several company and one is not making money you close it, it is simple as that.

This is very strange. I wouldn't have had any issue with anything before this update but now that's it's brought up with no context it's a little alarming. Also to see so many pledges drop after this update isn't a good sign either

    13. HaleysRedComet on

@Chris - Ludikbazaar and Sans Detour share an address and owner.

It seems one of the most important thing that SD is needing is an English proof reader for their posts...

    15. Chris on

Why do people keep bringing up this Ludikbazaar? What's the point? We get poorly translated comments in a 3,177 comment thread and have no context to this. This update needs to be re-written to include what it is about. Also if they plan to address issues or questions from another forum or website then they need to make sure we know what was asked. Each update should be self contained. It should have the questions and answers or requests and info.

    16. HaleysRedComet on

@Veri - This is the fist time I have seen that link in this campaign.

      https://fr.ulule.com/editionssansdetour/#projects/created/

I do not know why you're being suspicious about company. Ok it's their first project on kickstarter but they already have 6 projects on ulule (the french kickstarter) and they have very positive feedback.

      Don't be afraid,

I'm also a big customer on ludikbazar and the only thing I can blame this OTHER company is a little late on some order, even when they were in trouble they were very respectful about their customers.

The issue is that they obviously don't have any professional communication manager or whatever that's supposed to be called.
This update is "answering" comments and rumors started on the comment section and external forum, but not putting it into context. The result is something which sounds super suspicious for the vast majority of the backers who are not following closely what's happening, will bring their attention to the fact that there is a "problem" and make the backer leak even bigger. It looks like they are trying to sabotage themselves.
The title of the news is terrible, the worst I've seen among all the KS I backed and followed. And the way it is presented is actually making people more suspicious than soothing the worried backers.
They obviously don't have a person dedicated to the community management and communication (even though common sense should have been enough to not produce such an update, let's blame the stress and pressure) and their campaign will greatly suffer from this.

    19. Meisel on

I agree with @Chris, it is suspicious to point out something that should be expected normal, if you follow the comments it makes sense that this statement was requested, but here as an update it seems like out of context. From my backer view of this it just puts oil into fire...but I will HODL on... just please steer this project in the right direction and be more involved in the community that is supportung this campange. Waiting for update #11

    20. Chris on

Not so much unnerving as it doesn't answer anything. In the 3000+ comments I read that the "manager" of SD and Ludikbazar were the same person or something and that Ludikbazar was in some sort of financial trouble or something. It is very difficult with the language gap. This doesn't seem to address that directly if that was the case. Can someone who has understanding about what is happening with Ludikbazar and the financial issues explain it in english? Is there a single person (or multiple people) that is on both boards or is a part of both companies?
