Kinofest NYC is a niche film festival with a focus on independent cinema about Ukraine and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Established in 2009, it is based in New York's East Village, the historic heart of the city's Ukrainian immigrant community. The festival presents unique films that are rarely, if ever, screened publicly in the United States. During its 2012 festival, Kinofest NYC featured works by filmmakers from Bashkiria, Chechnya, Germany, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine, and flew in six filmmakers from Ukraine and Germany, including the 2011 Cannes short film Palme d'Or winner Maryna Vroda.
Our fourth festival is scheduled for April 4-7, 2013.

Risks and challenges
Successfully organizing a film festival requires a good deal of coordination and juggling. Challenges that we face as we plan for our 2013 film festival include:
Finding affordable screening venues that are available for our planned festival weekend
Getting commitment from our team of volunteers to assist with guest filmmakers' travel arrangements
Obtaining financing to cover costs of venue rentals and travel expenses
Minimizing audio / visual technical problems that may impact the experience of watching films
Effectively advertising and promoting the festival to the local communityLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
