Our world is getting louder and we all know that we need to be protecting our hearing, but are YOU?
Hearing damage is caused by exposure to loud noise over time. We aren't talking about years, just 15 minutes of exposure at 115 decibels can permanently damage your hearing (according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration). This graph shows how loud some of the things you like to do are and how long you can do them before your hearing is at risk.
Typical earplugs are bulky, hard to use, easy to lose, dirty and uncomfortable. Worst of all they block out sound in an uneven way and make it really hard to hear the things you need and want to hear.
High Fidelity earplugs provide hearing protection while retaining clarity and are perfect for concerts and festivals. They have been used by musicians for ages, but until now have come with a high price tag.
EarAngels are comfortable high-fidelity earplugs that are easy to use, made in the USA and above all, CONVENIENT! This means you will actually USE them. We often find ourselves in a loud situation and have forgotten or lost our earplugs. Or how about when you just get so frustrated trying to get an earplug into your ear that you just say "forget it"!
EarAngels are cleverly designed to solve all the issues facing other earplugs while also being affordable and community friendly. Check out this chart to see how they compare:
EarAngels are super easy to use and make it convenient to protect your hearing. The small end of each EarAngel has a barrel that acts like an earring backer. Simply push the barrel onto the post or hook of your earring. This can be done before you put on your earring, or after it is on your ear. The EarAngels will then hang from your earring without falling off.
When the music starts (or race car engines, power tools, crying babies etc.) leave the barrel end attached to your earring and insert the earplug end into your ear. EarAngels are much easier to insert than traditional earplugs and the soft cups allow for a comfortable and secure fit. You will notice that you can hear vocals better because the EarAngels have reduced ambient decibels. Now you can hear your friends AND your music!
If the band goes on a break, gently pull the leash to remove the earplug end from your ear while the barrel end stays attached to your earring. Let your EarAngels hang from your earrings until the band goes back on, or gently pull the barrel off your earring and store your EarAngels in the handy squeeze pack.

The sun shone down on the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chrissie and Matthew were walking out to cheer on their friend, Travis Pastrana. As the NASCARs roared past, Matthew noticed how pretty Chrissie looked when her feathery earrings swayed in the exhaust wash. He suddenly blurted out “WE SHOULD MAKE EARPLUG EARRINGS!” Chrissie responded with “WHAAAT??”
When she finally heard what he was saying she thought it was a great idea. But Chrissie has a unique sense of style and is very picky about her earrings, so she came up with the key piece to the idea and it was that the earplugs should attach to ANY earring. They found a quieter place to sit down and Chrissie sketched almost exactly what they have ended up producing today.
Since that day they have come a long way. They are almost ready to bring their product to the market, but have used up all their savings and now need your help to get their product a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). This is a standardized method of rating the decibel reduction of hearing protection and can be found on almost all earplugs that are on the market today.

= almost $50k (i.e. ALL of our savings!)
As you can see, we are ALL IN! And SOOOO close to having this amazing product available for YOU.
Our $5800 goal may seem small to some folks; Why so little and why such a weird number? Here's how it breaks down: we have to pay Kickstarter a % and we have to pay the service that accepts your money a %, then we have to pay for the product and shipping it to you. Once we do those things and pay those fees we're left with exactly the amount needed to get our Noise Reduction Rating which is simply the next step for our business.
Think of it this way, we're not thinking small, we're thinking simple and conservative. It's us demonstrating what we'd like to see from other businesses out there, just like making everything in the USA and keeping packaging and waste to a minimum.
That said, we do have a simple stretch goal in mind. The most common question folks ask when they see EarAngels is "Are you making them in colors?" The answer is, we'd love to!
We've run the numbers and if we reach $20k we can offer two additional colors for our backers to choose from. Of course, this will mean that your rewards will take longer to get to you (if you choose the new colors), but we are certain that we will be able to follow through with no more than a two month delay.
