My name's Cody... I'm from a small town in Central IL and had dreams to become a big folk singer, so I moved to the big city of Chicago, and people started callin' me Chicago Farmer. I write songs about small towns, big cities, and everywhere in between...here's a little story about my Kickstarter Project and New Album....Wanna hear it? Here it goes.....
In late 2011, I headed into The In Vault Labs recording studio in Chicago, IL to record my first full length album in 5 years.... and I'm happy to announce "Backenforth, IL" is complete! Some songs you may have heard at live performances, while a few songs have never even been performed on stage or outside of the house and studio. The songs, stories, and arrangements on this album are some of the best work I have ever done, and I couldn't be more pleased and excited for you to hear it!
For the recording sessions I brought in a backing band, and I'm pleased to introduce you to Chicago Farmer & The Hired Hands. Chicago Farmer and The Hired Hands are Myself, Darren Garvey on percussion, and Mike Davidov on bass. The three of us were recorded live and on analog tape to capture the realness and authenticity of each performance. To top it off, we brought in some of my favorite musicians including Illinois heavy hitters Joel Paterson, Scott Tipping and Ernie Hendrickson on guitars, Joe Day on organ, and Heather Horton, Chris Harden, Jaik Willis, and Dan Andree on vocals! It was an honor to create with these extremely talented people!
As usual, it's hard to pin this Chicago Farmer album into a category or genre, but the sounds we captured reflect everything from Americana, Folk, Country Blues, Singer/Songwriter, Jugband, Alt-Country, Protest, and even Rockabilly Music. Musically, we experimented with instruments from electric guitars and pedal-steels... to resonators, acoustic guitars, and dobros, Vocally, the harmonies are astounding!
For the past year and a half I've been touring relentlessly, performing in Venues, Clubs, Bars, Cafe's, Festivals and Living Rooms to pay for this album. Thanks to a lot of hard work and the support of the greatest fans in the world, I've been able to pay off some of the recording sessions and the extremely talented musicians who laid down their talents and tracks on this album. While this is a huge accomplishment and I'm extremely grateful, I still have a long way to go. With this Kickstarter Project I hope to pay for the recording sessions, pressing of the album copies, the artwork, a publicist, radio distribution, promotion, and if we exceed our goals I plan to release the album on Vinyl!
Please take a look at the GREAT REWARDS and pick one that suits you. With a minimum purchase of $15, the full length album "Backenforth, IL" will be shipped to your door before The Holidays and will make a great gift. The more you give the more you shall receive. I greatly appreciate your support and am sure you will enjoy the new album.

Risks and challenges
Thanks for taking a look at the Chicago Farmer Backenforth, IL Kickstarter Campaign. There's a good chance you're already a fan or friend. If so, thanks for taking this ride with me so far. If you're hearing about Chicago Farmer for the first time, we hope you hop on board. I'm a Solo Folk-Singer, so there's plenty of room! But being a Solo Folk-Singer, who sings original songs and tours the country, can also come with many challenges. These challenges include high costs in the music industry that often lead to a "quantity over quality" approach. This is not an approach Chicago Farmer wants to be a part of, or will ever be a part of. With your help, we can take the right steps to put out an album written, sung, and performed from the heart "with" quality.... and "without" a corporate label. I have under 40 days to complete our goal, please hop in, buckle up, and get ready for the ride to Backenforth, IL.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
