“A gallery is never safe. Everything is for sale.”
One dark stormy night in a big bad city, a desperate artist, Alice, seeks shelter in an art gallery. Domina, the gallery’s beguiling curator, quickly offers Alice a deal: trade her humanity in exchange for underground artistic stardom. “What does an artist need humanity for anyway? Art these days is so primal,” Domina croons. Alice agrees, wakes up in a cage, and begins her career as a coveted art object. As this surreal, posthumanist tale takes shape, Alice befriends a Doormouse and a Cuckoo Clock. Together they discover (or forget) what it means to be human.
Animalice was produced last December in the Kleinau Theatre. This August, Animalice is going to the Minnesota Fringe Festival! The show will run five nights (over eleven days) at The Playwrights' Center in beautiful Minneapolis.
The money raised will primarily pay for round-trip gas (for two cars) and to create some new travel-able set pieces. We'll also use a little of it to eat (though we will pay for most of that ourselves). We have already raised $350 through competitive scholarships. Help us get the rest of the way there!
By donating to this project, you are funding our dream, our adventure, and our future.
