The ForeverScape is a hand drawn illustration that is over 700 consecutive pages that all connect to form an immense psychedelic landscape. The paper alone weighs over 15 Lbs! You're funding a mobile app, putting the adventure into your hands. The current website is inadequate and does not allow you to move in every direction.

Since Vance does not sell the original artwork and it is rarely seen in person, it is essential that a portable, easy-to-use venue be accessible. While the site does its best to get the art out there, having an app in all major outlets will ensure the adventure is really there for everyone, and that's what keeps the art coming. Vance spends thousands of hours expanding the universe with meticulously drawn creatures, stones and blades of grass. His hands are cramping up right now. Funding this "expansion pack to the universe" will be a great leap forward in art.
The more backing this project gets, the more features can be added to the mobile gaming engine. You're buying critical time for Vance to develop the software and cover fees. The project goal is enough to develop a solid cross-platform framework for exploring the 'scape, dropping markers and performing social-media linked scavenger hunts. Extra funding will go toward extra features like tile-arranging, interactive coloring books, auto-playback, auto-playback with sound reactivity and HD desktop mode.
Vance will develop the ForeverScape gaming engine using Mono .NET, a cross-platform (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows Desktop + Mac Desktop) LLVM + JIT compiled language. App developer fees and platform porting fees are about $300-$700. Platform specific consulting fees may be $500-1,000. After rewards and Kickstarter fees, that's about $4k. This is enough to buy some time back from work for about 20 hours a week for several months + weekends and evenings. If this were getting contracted out, it would cost around 10K a week!
I want to thank Sustainable Seattle for inviting me to the Seattle Center in support of a sustainable future and keeping me on hand as Artist in Residence of 2011.
I will be adding personal hours on the weekend and evenings to climb the learning curve of new tools & platform specific challenges. Not to mention, drawing. Who needs sleep? This is my life long project, I'm not going to cut corners with the game!

A tiny portion of the ForeverScape:
Risks and challenges
I've worked in small interactive shops with tight deadlines for about a decade. The biggest challenge to a project like this is meeting the demands of so many platforms and general time-sink of programming challenges. The primary goal is to get the project started and release it to all platforms and popular social arenas.
I will be dedicated to making it accessible and fun; challenges will be met with every ounce of code-monkey fury. In the afterglow, as time and budget allow, the project can become more rich and dynamic. The key is getting version 1 out of the door. If there's anything I've learned in art and software, its getting a solid concept, engine and creative vision nailed-- we're almost there.
I've been planning the inner workings and prototyping for over a year, it's time to make it real.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
