Quindaro Press builds on its successful relaunch into YA with four page-turning narratives for 2016. Our hallmark is hidden history that amazes and inspires. If you're hungry for real stories of history and social justice, then join our community of readers!
Backers will receive the first copies off the press, autographed, along with only-on-Kickstarter postcards and posters.
Clarina was a smart, ambitious 17-year-old. But in 1827, her options were few. When she married a man who became abusive, her situation grew desperate. This is the true story of how Clarina Nichols turned her tragedy into triumph — and helped fuel the movement that created a brighter future for women everywhere. Diane Eickhoff won three major honors for Revolutionary Heart, her 2006 original biography of Clarina Nichols. With this Young Adult adaptation, Clarina’s remarkable story will inspire a whole new generation of readers.
In 1863, when she was 15, Tillie, her family, and all their neighbors watched helplessly as Union and Confederate forces took turns rampaging through town. Here is an account of the Battle of Gettysburg unlike any other — from the POV of the civilians who are caught in the crossfire, then left to clean up the carnage. Drawn from Tillie’s vivid eyewitness account and Tanya Anderson’s meticulous research, we offer this award-winner as an affordable softcover for the first time.
This Quindaro original by Tanya Anderson will immerse readers in the dangerous world of making ammunition during the Civil War. Much of this work was done by girls and young women struggling to make ends meet. When tragedy struck, their sacrifice was usually pushed off the front pages by the latest battle accounts. Now Tanya has reclaimed this hidden history in a story that combines original research with spellbinding narrative.
This Quindaro original by Lila Lee Jones is the story of America’s first mass migration, when more than 20 tribal nations were marched west to reserves as part of the government’s Indian Removal plan in the early 1800s. A thousand-mile military road was supposed to keep the Indians on one side and white settlers on the other. This incredible story about a forgotten time in our history is essential reading for all ages.
ABOUT US: Quindaro relaunched in 2015 to focus on publishing for young readers. We decided on Young Adult books because we saw a need for a lot more readable, diverse nonfiction and history aimed at the next generation of readers. Current titles in development will bring black, American Indian, women's, and other unsung voices in our history to life.
ADMIT IT, YOU READ YA: Lots of people do! YA is bold, fresh, and fun to read. It's the perfect kind of book for learning some of our country's "hidden history." Above all, Young Adult readers demand page-turning stories, and these four titles deliver.
ACCLAIM: Our first YA title, Firebrand, was released last fall to great reviews in School Library Journal and Kirkus. Our upcoming Clarina Nichols has already gotten thumbs-up from Publishers Weekly and Booklist (which wrote that "young readers learning about the suffrage movement in the US will find plenty to keep them engaged"). Tillie Pierce was honored by numerous library councils when it came out in 2013.
