About this project
The Ferguson Hill Clear Speaker System
We want to develop a unique clear speaker system that has full digital and wireless connectivity that looks great and sounds fantastic.
As modern flat screen TVs get thinner the sound quality of the internal speakers has become worse and worse. However the option of placing conventional box speakers either side of your TV can look pretty ugly.
Our speaker system will give great sound for your TV and give you the full home theatre experience. Just as important, this system will be your main HiFi and will sound great with all genres of music.
We have already designed some great sounding and looking clear speakers, and we now need to take this one stage further and include the full digital and wireless connectivity to make a great sounding and fully functional speaker system.
For full technical specifications see further down the page.
Here's a video explaining some of our "form follows function" engineering ethos.
The Primary Ferguson Hill Clear Speaker System
The Deluxe Ferguson Hill Clear Speaker System
The Deluxe surround sound Ferguson Hill Clear Speaker system
The pictures of the systems above show actual photographs of the horn and bass speakers. Being clear they are rather difficult to photograph so we shoot them on a light grey background then drop the images onto a white background, which best defines the shape. The central amplifier is however a simple line drawing with shading and more detail of the amp is shown in the videos of the CAD drawings further down the page.
All three systems come with the fully specified integrated amplifier so that at any time the Primary system can be upgraded by adding an extra bass sphere to the Deluxe system, or by adding 2 extra horn speakers that come with stands and wall mounts, for the full Deluxe surround sound system.
All systems come with wall mounts and stands for the horn speakers so you can choose your preferred setup.
Shipping is included for all of Europe, USA, Canada, and China. For any other countries please email us / email@example.com for a quote.
Ferguson Hill have already brought several speaker systems to market, winning awards, plaudits and fans around the world. With your help we'll deliver an even better system to market and to you!
Here's some press quotes and a video montage of photos of some previous products.

Current stage of development
The current stage of development of the speaker system is detailed in the video below and the Gannt chart further down the page. The horn speakers are already fully developed, tested and finalised. The bass speakers are very nearly there with the one piece blow moulding of the sphere already sorted and with just some final changes being made to the drive unit components as we optimise the sound quality. The integrated amplifier is about half way through the development with the basic design, choice of AV processing chips and specifications complete. The circuit block diagrams are also complete and we are now working on the detailed circuit diagram. We will then go through a process of testing the amplifier prototype and refining of the hardware and software before finalising the design. During this process there will be further tooling required for some of the amplifier case components. There will also be choices to be made in terms of the individual electronic components used based on measurement and listening tests.
What's in the amplifier
Here at Ferguson Hill we very much pride ourselves on the great customer service we give to all our customers Worldwide. Over the last 9 years we have sold over 6,500 speaker systems, from the high end FH001 system to the very popular FH007 desktop system. We have received many, many emails from happy customers commenting especially on the excellent customer service provided no matter what the age of the system or where they are in the World !
We would like to invite existing customers to comment about the service they receive on our facebook page:

Risks and challenges
One of the main challenges is to implement the latest in AV Digital chip technology to provide a full range of digital inputs, Bluetooth connection, and really high quality digital to analogue conversion to provide a high definition sound from the system.
We are currently evaluating the best AV processing chips available and working with the leading AV chip manufacturers, Worldwide and the factory in China, to implement this latest technology.
We have worked with our partner factory, Meiloon Industrial Ltd in China for 6 years now and have built up a great working relationship in all aspects of business from design, development, production and delivery to also really pushing the boundaries in terms of what we can do together.
A second challenge is to design and produce the tooling to manufacture the clear acrylic horn and bass speaker by injection and blow moulding techniques using Polycarbonate which is extremely tough and UV stabilised. We have already produced the horn speaker tooling and the bass sphere tooling, and developed and tested fully working examples. We are now at the stage of optimizing the bass drive unit for the best bass sound response.
The full system will then need to undergo a whole series of testing, developing and fully optimizing of both the hardware and software and finally certifying so that it can be put into production and brought to market.
Supply chain and logistics.
We have already developed and brought to market a number of loudspeaker systems that have won recognition and awards for the sound quality.
We also have already set up distribution channels in Europe, USA, Canada, and China, so we have the facility to deliver to the Kickstarter backers.

No, the speakers are all wired.
The wireless part is the bluetooth wireless connectivity from any Bluetooth enabled device, PC. Mac, Tablet, Phone etc so that you can wirelessly stream your music to the speaker system.
We decided not to go down the route of wireless speakers as this would mean each speaker would need a receiver, power supply, power amplifier and a mains plug. A wired connection to the speakers is generally considered to give the best sound quality, compared to wireless connection which can be lower quality and suffer from drop outs.
The wires to the front horn speakers and bass speakers are pretty easy to arrange and hide as they are near the amplifier. If you really require a wireless connection to the rear speakers in the full surround set up then you can add a wireless audio sender / receiver. You would then plug the sender into the Kickstarter amp and plug the rear speakers into the receiver / amplifier. Good examples of audio sender / receivers can be purchased for about £ 150-00.
Yes we have checked the rates with our couriers and shipping would be free to Turkey.

The integrated amplifier and AV processor:
Total power 180 Watts.
2 x optical digital
1 x co-axial digital
3 x HDMI
1 x USB
1 x Analogue stereo 3.5 mm
1 x Analogue stereo phono
Bluetooth wireless connection.
Advanced digital signal processing.
5.1 / 7.1 internal AV processing
Internal high quality DAC ( digital to analogue converter ).
6 internal power amplifiers, so that for the full surround set up each drive unit has it’s own dedicated power amplifier.
Amplifier size: width 33 cm, height 6 cm, depth 16 cm. (TBD )
Remote Control :
A small simple remote control, with functions for On, Off, Standby / Source select / Volume / Bass level adjust / Surround mode, etc.
Dimensions : Height 42 cm / Width 27 cm / Depth 19 cm.
The horns can be wall or stand mounted.
Drive unit :
8 Ohm, Neodymium semi full range drive unit, operating from 500Hz to 20 KHz.
Bass Speaker :
350 mm diameter polycarbonate sphere. Ported spherical enclosure.
3 spiked feet / Aluminium alloy.
8 Ohm / 8 inch Bass drive unit, operating from 35 Hz to 500 Hz.
The system can be configured in the following ways:
The Primary system:
1 integrated amplifier
2 wall mounted or stand mounted Horn speakers
1 Bass speaker / plugged into mono output from the amplifier.
The Deluxe system:
1 Integrated amplifier
2 wall mounted or stand mounted Horn Speakers
2 Bass speakers.
The Deluxe Surround system
1 Integrated amplifier
2 wall mounted or stand mounted Horn speakers
2 Bass speakers
2 rear wall mounted or stand mounted Horn speakers.
At any time the Primary system can be upgraded by adding the extra bass speaker, for greater authority in the bass, and by adding the rear speakers for a full surround sound system.
This full surround sound system would technically be called a 4.2 system.
The front centre channel of a 5.1 recording is fed equally to the left and right front horns to give an ideal centrally placed centre channel. The “.2” denotes the 2 bass speakers rather than the usual 1 bass speaker in a typical 5.1 setup.
