When my son, Leo, and I adopted his first puppy from the pound 12 years ago, we didn't know that Loki would not only grown up to be the best dog ever, but Leo's service dog as well. I guess you might say they rescued each other.
Learning everything a Service Dog needs to know takes a lot of work ~and a lot of training treats! We were appalled and disgusted by the ingredients in conventional dog treats, and wanted something better for our wonder dog.
Leo & Company grew out of our desire for organic training treats that would support good health as well as good behavior. Drawing on my background as a veterinary technician, we began creating delicious, organic dog biscuits recipes ~Loki flipped for them, and we could see the difference in his vitality as well as his training.
Leo, now 15, wants to share these unstoppably great treats with the world ~and demonstrate that business can be a force for good. We want to have a lasting impact, both in the lives of the pets who enjoy our treats, and in our community as a whole.
By partnering with local family farmers, we minimize our carbon footprint and support organic practices while securing the freshest, healthiest and most delicious ingredients possible. We also work with no-kill shelters, donating our time and biscuits to train and socialize dogs waiting for forever homes, and rewarding adopters with free bags of biscuits. And because we know shelters are full of awesome dogs like Loki, we donate 10% of our profits to no-kill animal shelters Nationwide.
WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING:
Our hard work has begun to pay off: Leo & Co. biscuits have been selling well online, three local stores proudly carrying them, and many more are clamoring to do so. We now find ourselves in a classic Catch-22 of small business: if only we could afford to upgrade our equipment, we could increase our biscuit production enough to be able to afford to upgrade our equipment . . . You get the idea
Here wheres YOU can make a difference: By helping Leo & Company grow, you can be a part of engaging many more farmers in practicing small-scale, organic farming; creating local, “green” jobs; help us deliver more unstoppably good treats to more dogs; and allow us to donate even more time, money and biscuits to more great animal causes! Everybody wins!
The total cost of securing and outfitting the new space is $6,000! WOOF! We’re looking to raise at least $3,000 of that through Kickstarter. Help provide the tools for Leo & Company to grow and I guarantee, whether you’re in Portland, Oregon or Portland Maine, you’ll eventually feel the results of our hard work. You can help make a world of difference, one dog at a time!
