Stretch Goal Update!
20K!!!!! THE POLISH SHALL BE COMPLETE!!!
How far can we get in a day? YOU decide. But for now, whoever backs this shall be embracing musical divinity, or the closest we can make to it.
Just Fun is a labor of love by quite a few people. It started as an album project that I wanted to finish fast. It didn't turn out that way. Instead, it kind of exploded.
Rather than ten songs it is now fourteen. Rather than a limit of three minutes there is an intro, an outtro, a five minute and a seven minute song with most of them going well over three. Rather than one composer there are now a dozen collaborators including two guitarists, an operatic vocalist, a hammer dulcimer player, and some of the most amazing music I've ever heard. Here's a list of collaborators:
Jake Kaufman (Virt)
Jimmy Hinson (Big Giant Circles)
Andrew Aversa (Zircon)
Erik Peabody (Viking Guitar)
Grant Henry (Stemage)
Levon Louis (DJ Bottles)
I'm Alexander Brandon and I've written game music for 20 years. You might recognize my themes from games such as Deus Ex:
Or from titles like Unreal Tournament:
Or more recently from titles like Dust: An Elysian Tail (with Hyperduck Soundworks):
I also release albums on Bandcamp. You can give them a listen here along with a free download of my first game score: Tyrian.
Roughly three months of full time effort has gone into this album over a period of over a year. Evenings, weekends, early mornings spent by myself as well as the fine folks who have collaborated with me. I'd like the ability to have this release be to a wider audience, with the ability to supply things like cool signed CDs as well as even more digital downloads of previous works. Just as important, I want to be able to mix and master the album with pro engineers. I love to write music, but the difference a mixing and mastering job can make is truly extraordinary when you hear a "before" and "after" comparison.
To assist in this process and to attempt to compensate my illustrious collaborators I'm reaching out to the fans for help. Support like this without major publishers has not been possible until now and a vehicle like Kickstarter can take a project with potential such as this and enable it to realize that potential. And the fans benefit far more than having bought an album. They connect with the musicians more closely than ever.
So if I raise the minimum amount, we'll get a great physical CD and two hours worth of music. Beyond that you can get a complete SECOND album of remixes as well as the mixing and mastering.
For starters, there's the 45 minute album itself.
But if that isn't enough, there's more! Contribute more and you get more than you pay for, every time.
To start with you get an hour of my MOD releases, classic tracks borne of the technology of the Commodore Amiga computer. The best Amiga MOD files were hard to distinguish from studio tracks. In later incarnations the tunes sound like this:
But these MOD songs will be completely remastered and included as a special edition bonus pack.
For the hardcore, there's an AdLib song pack. Have a listen to the original Tyrian score for a taste of what these tunes sounded like:
You will get over 30 previously unreleased tracks that I wrote from 1987-1994, all remastered in a special edition pack.
Finally, there is the stretch goal of remixes. If we can make it to $15,000 pledged you will receive a complete second album of remixes from the original Just Fun album by the original collaborators! Considering the average price of one hit song is $1 million, that's not a bad deal.
The expected download date is June 6, 2014. The expected CD ship date is June 27, 2014! The full lot of content for download will be available as close as possible to June 27, 2014!
I have said it many times before and I won't stop saying it. I wouldn't continue to release music if it weren't for the fans. Your support and your help in the years past have kept me going. And the time and talent of the collaborators has equally inspired me to write different, better, bigger, bolder music each time I hear their work.
So if you share, if you donate, if you listen and smile. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

In addition to you, the backers, the following people were (excuse the pun) instrumental in getting this project ready to go:
Jayson Napolitano (PR)
Erik Peabody (video editing)
Risks and challenges
Note that every project has its risks. While I've done the numbers on just about everything I can imagine there may be delays in CD production, remix production and mixing and mastering. But rest assured, backers are the number one priority of everyone on this project. And updates will be found here regularly to provide you with up to date info on how things are going!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
