I came to Merida when I was 14 years old, and lived by myself while studying performing arts, and keeping up with my school. My mom and I had decided this was the best option for me at the time. Hurricane Wilma had destroyed practically the entire city of Cancun, I was loosing classes due to the damage of this natural disaster and needed to find a way to save my school year. Merida taught me how to be responsible, independent and mature at a young age. I wanted to do something to give back, something that would hopefully have an impact on others, specially those who have not had the opportunities my classmates and myself have had.
