THE FREEDOM SYSTEM
The humble bicycle is the world’s most energy efficient form of transport. It has largely remained the same in shape and form for the last 100 years. Of course, some things have altered. Weight and frame design, wheels, groupsets, handlebars and much more. This is all possible due to refined design tools, advanced techniques and access to strong and lighter fabrics. However one component has largely remained unchanged… and that is the WATER BOTTLE.
- The cage, by design, needs to be smaller than the bottle it holds...making it difficult to remove, and replace.
- The cage could only ever hold a bottle. - The shape of the bottle is constrained by the shape of the cage.
- Bottle decals are hidden and damaged by the cage.
- The ‘Triangle’ is the most useful area on a bike to carry anything...but at present it can only carry a water bottle! With the Freedom System you can carry anything that will mount on a PIN!
For years we have worked tirelessly to not only make our traditional bottle the best there is, but to offer other elements that will also fit on the pin, therefore making this the only true universal carry system for cycles.
The Freedom Ease is a traditional round bottle. Generous 650ml volume. Easy to remove, locate and replace even on compact or a ladies frame. Removable top and bottom cap for easy cleaning.
The Freedom Fast is a 550ml aero bottle. Wind tunnel tested, this bottle is not only functional, but quick. Even if you don’t need aero, you will still enjoy the look this bottle brings to the modern frame. Removable top and bottom cap for easy cleaning.
The Freedom fix is our versatile carry-all container or toolkit. Simple but effective design allows easy access to all your tools and supplies....from BOTH ENDS!!. Wide opening 63 ml top and 50 ml bottom.
Small and Compact Frames
A significant benefit of the Freedom System is the ease of use on small and compact frames. Scott McGrory explains-
Two Stage Capture System
Different rides and rider require different levels of tension to secure their bottle. Cyclists range in age from 3 to 93, both male and female. They ride on roads and mountains and yet one cage fits all...really!!!
The Freedom system has a unique 2 stage capture system. The first stage is secured by a replaceable rubber O-ring this stage is the easy stage (Variable O rings supplied with Pin, deliver different hold tensions for different rides) . The next stage is a mechanical connection, much firmer and when coupled with the first stage creates a secure hold for any ride. Scott McGrory explains -
At Freedom Cycle System we commissioned wind tunnel testing on the Freedom Ease. The sole purpose was to determine the aerodynamic interference of the BOTTLE CAGE. The results were astonishing.
You will see below in the 3 test segments the negative effect the cage has on cycle aerodynamics...or more importantly the positive effect a cage-less system delivers.
Time savings were calculated for a cyclist producing a constant 400 (w) over a 50 km time trial course; and assumes a flat road, no wind, constant temperature (density 1.225 kg/m 3).
Freedom over Cage 1 = 17.9 seconds
Freedom over Cage 2 = 13.8 seconds
At Freedom we have overcome the embedded problems to create a new way of hydration, but more importantly a new way of storage for your bike. - Secure the bottle internally to eliminate the shortcomings of the traditional system. - Internal mounting means we can create an accessory or bottle in any shape and material for better aerodynamics or volume . - All bottles and accessories are interchangeable on the SAME pin!!
Already you have seen our Toolbox project which we will be offering in late 2018. Below are some other elements that are on the horizon.
The Freedom Cycle System innovation wins 4 categories at the prestigious Bendigo Inventors Awards. The system is further runner up at the Sydney Design awards in the same year. http://www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au/story/394811/bike-invention-wins-top-gong-at-awards-night/ Through further worldwide testing and development, the Freedom Cycle system has gone from strength to strength and is now ready to be taken to the world.
Risks and challenges
Our project has very few risks and plenty of upside to it. We have had patents in place for many years and have had working versions of our product that have been used on road and mountain bikes for many years. We also hope to finalise our production samples before launching on Kickstarter which only leaves us to put in our first orders from our manufacturers who say they can deliver within 30 days. We therefore hope to place our first orders in the first week of our campaign and be able to fulfill orders made on Kickstarter by the end of April 2018.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
