The Micro Field Bag for iPhone
We have designed and want to Kickstart the worlds first leather bag for your iPhone! We need your help! We have made our first prototype and we think this amazing little iPhone sleeve is both fun and amazingly practical.
Kari and I own Pad & Quill. 2 years ago we asked backers to join us in making the world's smallest book bindery case for the iPod Nano. We not only funded that project but had a blast delivering all those little miniature books in the summer.
When we set out to craft our new leather dry goods last year we wanted to make products of unique beauty and quality. We created ruggedly built leather and canvas bags to carry all your devices in hand crafted style. Then we realized that we forgot to make a bag for one of the most important devices you carry.
With the very same details that we poured into our leather and canvas bags, the Micro Field bag is a quality carry bag, uh.. sleeve for your iPhone. Made of full grain leather, 18 oz waxed canvas and stitched with thread that is used in Parachutes. Yes. Parachutes. We even plan to include a micro handle on the back for the smallest of fingers.
Again we think it's amazingly practical way of carrying your iPhone, multiple credit cards, ID and cash. You can even stuff your charger cube and cable...in your other pocket. We hope this little guy make you smile as much as we have. Thanks for any consideration of backing this project!
Early on we worked with our leather specialist in Leon, Mexico to begin the drawings of this little sleeve.
Here our the beginning drawings.
We started with these drawings and then discussed if we are going to make a micro bag, it's actually got to be a great sleeve. We wanted to truly match the quality of our full size bags, so we used the EXACT same materials on those bags for this little sleeve.
Some big considerations were to make this as slim as possible so you could fill the Micro Field Bag with your phone, ID, and Credit card, while still being able to stuff the bag in a pocket or purse. Another was to have a ringlet hole at the top for one main reason, your headphones. We also think this might be a great place to attach a small wrist strap or lanyard. One item that is not shown on this first prototype is the closure. That will be done with a regular, but high quality button snap.
If (WHEN!) you help us reach our funding goal on this little gem, our production will begin immediately. We will order all necessary materials including our waxed canvas, leather and metal hardware. Next we will create a final prototype with the exact closure design along with an even better placement for the headphones ringlet. We will then order leather and fabric dies.
We will begin with manufacturing about 10-12 of the Micro bags to make sure that we work out any issues in cutting, splitting and assembly of the materials. Once our manufacturing guideline is established we will create a small manual for production
Production and Shipping
We will move to production and complete all orders in about 3-4 weeks. We plan to then ship these to our fulfillment house in Minneapolis. Orders will be then fulfilled out of our Pad & Quill fulfillment warehouse. Once this is complete we hope to offer this case on our main website for order.
Risks and challenges
-Manufacturing is lined up, but delays could occur due to production floor schedule and initial trial run issues. We are working very closely with our manufacture and will be visiting them regularly to ensure that any issues that due arise are analyzed and proper solutions are implemented for final production to be done on time. If we cannot meet our timeline then we will communicate to backers on when to expect the bags to ship.
-Materials are ready as we have ordered all of these for our full size bags. That does not mean that certain colors could run out of stock or leather does not arrive with the quality that we expect. If any of these issues arise we will take corrective actions, both in reorder of materials or back up suppliers. We will also keep our backers up to date on any issues that could show up.
-Shipping is handled by Pad & Quill. Shipping delays could occur due to customs from Mexico to the U.S. This is rare and we will let our backers know if any delays occur. We will be using USPS for domestic shipping and FedEx for international shipments.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
