Barùkas nuts are the healthiest nuts in the world, and this Trail Mix is 100 percent unique in every way—its origins, ingredients, taste, phenomenal nutrition profile, and eco-benefits. It's so brand new to the U.S., that as a backer, you will be one of the first people on earth to enjoy this snack. Meanwhile, your contribution helps save a highly endangered area. Here's why this Trail Mix is truly like no other:
It's the first Trail Mix in which the fruit and the nut (extracted from deep inside the fruit) come from the same plant! We use the entire fruit in this granola—the sweet dried baru fruit and the deeply flavorful Barùkas nut.
To find the baru fruit, you'd have to fly to the most remote regions of South America, rent an all-terrain vehicle, and look for the large Baruzeira trees that spawn the fruit. Each small, oval baru fruit contains only one nut.
To survive the extreme climate of their native area, Barùkas nuts developed the highest antioxidant power of any nut. And the fruit itself is no slouch—its antioxidant power rivals the nut!
Americans get about half the fiber they need. But not you, if you snack on Barùkas Trail Mix! That's because both the nut and fruit are unusually fiber-rich. What's so great about fiber? It helps protect you from just about everything—obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and more.
THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR MELD
The roasted nut (with notes of coffee and chocolate) pairs beautifully with the sweet, delightfully crunchy pulp.
SUPER STRONG ECO-CREDS
It's a good thing this Trail Mix is so delicious—it means you'll come back for more! The more Barùkas Trail Mix you eat, the better for its homeland, an endangered South American eco-system called “the Cerrado.” Neighboring the Amazon rainforest, it's the most biodiverse savanna on the planet, with over 10,000 spieces of plants, 1,000 species of birds, and 400 species of mammals (most of which are found nowhere else in the world).
Three times the size of Texas, the Cerrado lies just below the Amazon. In fact, it feeds the Amazon`s rain system through its huge underground water reserves. And like its famous neighbor, huge swathes have been deforested by industrial farming and ranching:
We have a twin commitment to the Cerrado: Protect the unspoiled land, and re-forest the large swathes razed by industry. How? We're preserving—and planting more of—the large cooling Baruzeira trees that spawn the Barùkas nuts and fruit. Baruzeiras dot the still-wild sections of the Cerrado, replenishing the environment by emitting oxygen and moisture and offering shelter and food for wildlife. Meanwhile, we aim to re-forest razed areas. We're not just talking about a tree here and there—our goal is to plant 20 million Baruzeiras on cattle ranches and other deforested spots.
Yet another benefit to your Barùkas Trail Mix purchase—you’re helping Cerrado families stay on their land. Harvesting baru nuts offer local folks a sustainable income, while allowing them to preserve—and even plant more of—the trees that produce the nut.
It's truly a win all around. For your health, the health of the planet, and the health of the world community.
We've been building the infrastructure to bring Barùkas Trail Mix to you for over two years. We've overcome most of the challenges and are ready to go into production. Below is an estimated timeline for production. You'll be the first to know if anything changes.
We're so confident you'll love Barùkas Trail Mix we're offering Kickstarter backers a money-back guarantee. If you don't love it, we'll refund your pledge, minus shipping & handling.
Risks and challenges
The supply chain for Barùkas nuts is simple because the trees grow naturally in the forest, but it touches a lot of people and takes an enormous amount of coordination. The first step is to organize the indigenous villagers to go into the forest and collect the fruit. Then it's just a matter of getting the delightfully crunchy pulp off the outside and the nut out of the inside. We have ultimately organized over 10,000 local villagers to gather Barùkas nuts in the forests near to where they live. It's a great source of income for them.
This will be our first time producing the Trail Mix at scale, which requires new machinery that we haven't used before. We're working with top engineering firms in Brazil and have created prototypes. If we get into full scale production we may need to fine-tune the equipment, but we are confident we can do that quickly.
Ultimately it will just require hard work and coordination with the community in Brazil. We are passionate about sustainably harvesting and farming Barùkas nuts, as well as helping the local people stay on their native land. We want to protect and preserve the precious lives and ecosystem of the Cerrado. By supporting Barùkas Trail mix, you too, are helping conserve the miracle of the Cerrado. You’re also doing your body a favor with this ultra-healthy Trail Mix. Thank you for your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
