Our upcoming festival season takes place October 2013 in New York City (Ailey Citigroup Theater) and Texas (Sam Houston State University) and consists of SIX dance shows presenting 25 choreographers in total. This is what your donations will help support!
Who we are and what we do?
Since its inception in 2007, the festival's goal has been to provide exposure to up-and-coming artists in a state of the art venue complete with production staff, marketing, and public relations support. To date, the Dance Gallery Festival has presented 84 choreographers and over 400 dancers.
What is the money for?
The Dance Gallery Festival’s mission is rooted in nurturing the dance community and providing opportunities for both emerging and established artists. The Dance Gallery Festival does this by featuring three different events at our festival in October 2013:
• The Dance Gallery UP Close – Intimate works that showcase artists on the rise.
• The Dance Gallery – Concert dance works that showcase artists who are solidifying their career.
• The Dance Gallery Level UP – Concert dance that showcase mature artistis.
For the last six years, the Dance Gallery Festival has been financed almost entirely by ticket sales. In an effort to provide more support for our artists, we are launching a Kickstarter campaign. This year’s festival features work from Italy, France, Texas, Florida, Idaho, Louisiana and New York. We could not be more thrilled!
Because of the festival's continued growth, we must seek additional financing.
Our needs this year include:
1. Hire a first-rate press agent to upgrade our promotional materials and enhance the festival and its artists' visibility.
2. Hire a talented lightning designer so that our choreographers’ work has quality design.
3. Hire a professional videographer and photographer to archive our artists’ work.
4. Provide stipends to our Level UP choreographers.
5. Maintain a level of professionalism that our audience has come to know and expect from us.
In order to break even with our expenses, we need your help! We have circled the amount $4500 as a way to achieve our goals, break even, and continue to raise our profile in the dance community. No contribution is too small or unappreciated. We know you have a lot of great choices and opportunities out there. We hope we can be part of your plans.
Why should I support this?
The Dance Gallery Festival is an ambitious and eager platform designed to showcase up-and-coming talents. Without this program, many of our choreographers and companies might not get the chance to show their work on a professional stage of this caliber. Opportunities for emerging choreographers are dwindling across the country. We hope to eventually develop into a beacon for up-and-coming choreographers across the country.
Since we depend highly on our ticket sales for covering our production costs. To be able to take our program and its new talent to the next level, we need your support.

Risks and challenges
Presenting artist and their work is incredibly exciting but can have unforeseen outcomes. That is part of the fun! But, risks increase exponentially. By working with 25 choreographers and over 80 dancers in two theaters, a limited amount of tech rehearsals, various lighting and technology needs, we have created a handful of challenges for this festival. (This is why we constantly brainstorm, making sure all of the elements are considered and we are prepared for the unforeseeable). That said, any challenge that comes our way, we feel confident that we can solve. After all, this is out seventh year and we are confident we can do it again.
We have an outstanding team of seasoned topnotch behind-the-scenes staff and artists. All of us know how to respond in the moment. We have a clear vision, listen to each other, and always make our decisions based on what is best for the festival.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
