Hello from Los Angeles!
Hello from sunny Los Angeles (not so sunny today, actually, but usually so sunny)! We’re finally here, rounding the corner into our last few pre-production days.
The team has been working tirelessly with all hands on deck. Here’s a little peek into what they’ve been up to: Production Designer, Mariah Burke, and Assistant Production Designer, Cornelia Lorentzen, have been combing LA-area prop houses to bring our 17th-century sets to life; they’ve also been building our incredibly elaborate tent set and sourcing fabrics from LA’s garment district. Art Dept Assistants Sean Winnik and Dan Muro also constructed a gorgeous 17th-century peasant bed for our set. Producer, Rachel Day, has been sorting out all our on-set and pre-production logistics and keeping everything running on-schedule and smoothly. Writer/Directors Raphael and Susannah have been storyboarding and re-storyboarding up the wazoo and have been deep in rehearsals with our fabulous actors.
We’re thrilled to welcome some new members to our team: our Director of Photography, Kelsey Talton, with her amazing crew; Costume Designer Kumie Asai; and our lead actress Olena Calderon, as well as our amazing supporting cast. We’re also overjoyed to be collaborating with hair sculptor Joanne Petit-Frére, who is creating original pieces for our film. And we’re delighted to be featuring music by L’Rain (Taja Cheek).
These past few weeks have been incredibly energizing, demanding, intensely collaborative and creative. They’ve also been so, so fun and rewarding. We feel so deeply blessed to be working artists and specialists we admire so much. We encourage you to check out all these artists’ work! We’re so moved by how much these talented, hardworking people have been pushing themselves and stretching to new heights to make this vision happen.
We start shooting on June 25th (!!!!!!!!) and we will be working round the clock till then, but stay tuned on our Instagram @laciegafilm for updates and a behind-the-scenes look at our process, including storyboards, fabric hunting, prop shopping, and general shenanigans.
We are so grateful for your continued support! You are all a crucial part of these team. It’s thanks to you that we are able to hire all these incredible artists, to assemble them into a mega-allstar-team; it’s because of you that we’re able to bring this to story to life. Thank you, thank you!
Positively radiating gratitude,
Susannah and Raphael and the whole La Ciega Team
