Project goal has been met! Any pledges in the next few days will go towards future "Miki and Sir" projects. :)
A series of (initially three) "I Can Read"/Early Reader* style books about growing up with, perhaps, a little too much imagination.
The stories center around eight year old Mikayla Darling (known as Miki to her friends) and her dad, who she calls Sir - "Because he used to be a knight, but now he makes cakes."
Right now I have three books in the works:
- A ballet story. Ballet is very structured, Miki is full of fidgets...
- Super hero Miki and Sir! Creating costumes out of things commonly found about the house and then saving the world.
- A kid friendly baking cook book. Miki and Sir's favorite recipes for muffins, cupcakes and cookies, as well as misadventures in the kitchen.
The books will be illustrated, written and published by me, Colleen Rauch.
Funding will go mostly towards publishing, with a small amount going towards art supplies.
In addition to the listed backer rewards, anyone who pledges (no matter how big or small!) will get a hand colored Miki and Sir thank you postcard in the mail. :)
Originally, Miki and Sir was going to be a web-based story. Starting this past winter, there are even a few updates over on mikiandsir.blogspot.com (where book progress will now be blogged about.)
If all goes well with the books (and/or if the Kickstarter funding goes beyond expected) the web stories will return as well. These will be different from/shorter than the book stories and will, hopefully, encourage computer literacy among readers. The website will also include a "read along with Miki" book club and a means for asking the characters questions.
*Think "All Tutus Should Be Pink" or "Frog and Toad" or even "Little Bear"!
