Bella Tromba want to create a legacy of quality chamber music for future generations of brass players who love to make music together.
Bella Tromba are raising money to commission young composers to write new works for brass.
We want to support the composer Peter Longworth in the early stages of his career by commissioning him to write a ten minute work for trumpet quartet. His new piece Days of Bells and Flying Creatures is scored for Bb trumpets, flugel, piccolo trumpet and bass trumpet. Peter intends to capture an Italian day in Summer as the church bells chime across the air interacting with nature.
Formed by four trumpet players studying at London’s Royal Academy of Music in 2004, Bella Tromba went on to win prestigious contemporary music prize the Park Lane Group Award. Live concert performances for Classic FM and Radio 3 have strengthened the ensembles appeal and this ambitious group continues to dedicate their energy to expanding and exploring music written for brass.
Peter Longworth’s music has been performed by the London Mozart Players, members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. His earlier work for trumpet quartet Colori di Roma has been performed by Bella Tromba numerous times across the UK and in Europe.
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge that any new work faces is being forgotten about once it has received it's premiere. Bella Tromba has agreed four performances of Days of Bells and Flying Creatures for 2017 and will ensure the piece remains a firm favourite of the group in 2018 and beyond.
Peter and the quartet will work together to ensure the new work captures the skills of the ensemble and the character of the beautiful and varied trumpets on offer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
