About this project
It's time for the Poor Girl Eats Well book, but I need your help!
Campaign Update: 5/7/2012
Poor Girl Eats Well is a unique blog that shows folks how to eat tasty, nutritious food despite one's tiny budget. Everyone is cutting back these days but when it comes to food, you shouldn't have to compromise on taste & nutrition! From original recipes to tips on how to change the way you think about eating on a budget, Poor Girl Eats Well has helped folks cut back on their grocery bill and incorporate healthier meal options into their daily routine for over 3 years.
Over 300 recipes and dozens of important tips later, Poor Girl is finally writing her book, which will surely become your #1 resource for eating well despite a tiny income.
Tentatively titled Poor Girl Eats Well: The Official Guide to Eating Ridiculously Well on a Minuscule Budget, this long awaited book will feature everything that regular readers have come to love about the Poor Girl Eats Well blog, but with many more tips & resources to answer the question I'm frequently asked: "How DO you eat such great food for so little money?"
Most fans come to the site for the tasty, primarily healthy recipes, but are still mystified by how I can create such wonderful food despite my nano-income. The book will divulge all my secrets by expanding on the tips already featured on the site and many other pearls of wisdom that I've learned along the way. From the full story of how I got to this point and tips on how to do your own $25 Shopping Cart venture successfully, to articles that will help you change the way you think about eating on a budget, the book will be an incredible resource to help everyone make the most of their food dollar no matter what the state of the economy may be.
Of course, there will be plenty of recipes too! Reader favorite recipes and many new ones that are not featured on the site will be included, along with the delicious food photos PGEW fans have come to love. 80+ recipes are currently scheduled to be featured, and more may be added as the book is written.
- Brand new, exclusive recipes that have never been featured on the site, plus tried and true favorites from the site, like the Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad with Honey-Dijon Vinaigrette, Baked Eggs, Ham & Asparagus in Tomato Cups, and more!

HOW TO USE KICKSTARTER
On the right-hand side of the screen, you’ll see a list of suggested contribution levels. With each of these levels comes a special Thank You gift.
To contribute, just click on the contribution level that seems right to you, and then you’ll enter your credit card info through Amazon checkout. It’s all safe and secure. We’ll receive the final payment when our project reaches its final goal. If we don’t reach that goal, your card will never be charged.
I’ve set the initial goal at $9,750, but the more money I can raise, the better and bigger the book will be! Thank you in advance for all of your support and contributions!
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU
As I’m finding out, writing a book takes time and money! From the ingredients for my custom recipes to the amazing designer I have who’s taking these recipes and photos and compiling them into an amazing-looking book that you are all going to LOVE!
This will be a professionally designed, professionally printed book! The majority of the funds will go towards designing and printing the final piece. Most of the content is written and ready to go, but I need your help with the final steps. I need all I can to get this project completed. So, I’m asking my amazing community to come on board with me in the process. Let’s do this together! Publishing this book will not only mean a signed copy for you to keep and use, but you’ll be supporting Poor Girl Eats Well and helping me keep the site going while I add new features and content.
Even if you can't help with a contribution at this point, anything you can do to spread the word would be a great help to get this project off the ground; post a link to this page on your blog or Facebook, or email any friends that might be interested!
WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO
- Time required to finish writing the final pieces
- Graphic design services for the book
- Printing and shipping and administration expenses
- Creating and sending the Kickstarter rewards
- Kickstarter and transaction fees
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU
Now, you fine readers have always been very gracious with your generosity and support, and the most I've ever been able to give you in return is a whole bunch of gratitude. But because you'll be helping me finally become the "real" author I've always wanted to be, I have set up some fun rewards to truly thank you for helping me get to this point!
Check out the rewards section to the right for more information. I’ve set up many options to accommodate everyone’s various budgets.
Many of the contribution levels will earn you a sampling of my Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies!
If you’re not sure how this whole Kickstarter thing works, check out their FAQ page. If you have any questions at all about the project, about where your money will go, or if you have ideas or suggestions of ways to collaborate please get in touch. You can email Kimberly at Kimberly@poorgirleatswell.com.
International backers (outside the U.S. or Canada) please add $20 to help with the cost of shipping.
There wasn't a way to make this clear in the incentive section, but basically the incentives will ship out on the dates listed, and the book will ship once it is actually complete. There's still a lot left to work on, including recipe testing, photo shoots, etc., so the book will take a bit longer. I'm hoping to have it ready by November 2012, so it'll be just in time for the holidays! :)
I really want the big dinner party at my house, but can't afford $5,000. Can friends get together & pitch in to get this cool perk?
Absolutely! You'll need to arrange the logistics among yourselves, but you can definitely pool money together to get the big dinner party! A big group would be fun to hang out with, so the more, the merrier! :)
Spread the word!!! It's equally important to have people share this project with others as it is to get contributions. The more people that know about it, the more people will back the project, and the better the book shall be! So if you can only afford $1, that's cool; if you'd rather share the link to this project on your blog, Facebook page, Twitter, etc., that's even better. :)
