This project has received some amazing support. Time to introduce some stretch goals!
Stretch Goal 1: ACHIEVED!
Now that we've hit $5000, the tote, trio tee, patterned tee, & buttondown will all become available in black. Back whatever tier you'd like as usual, and you will now have the option to choose your colors in the backer survey once the campaign has finished.
*Note: Due to differing printing processes, the black t-shirt will be shipped later than the white t-shirts. It will be shipped on the same schedule as the buttondown.
I'm also now able to donate 50% of my profits to Planned Parenthood! So keep backing to support a great cause.
Everyone knows that women kick butt. In this pattern, they do it literally!
This pattern started out on a zine and a print, and now I’m expanding it to t-shirts, tote bags, caps, mugs and (my personal favorite), a short-sleeve buttondown shirt. I’m so excited with how the samples have been coming out, and I’m even more excited to bring them to all of you with this Kickstarter!
And what's more, 50% of all profits will be donated to Planned Parenthood. Because they kick butt the hardest.
This pattern looks great as an all-over motif, and is also super fun when just a few elements from it are featured. Check out the collection below!
Digital Wallpapers - $5
Get some butt-kickers in your backgrounds!
Mug - $15
Add an extra kick to your morning coffee! This mug features 2 ladies from the pattern, one on each side (see which ones in the image below.)
Trio Tee - $18
A simpler, more minimalist t-shirt featuring a trio of butt-kicking ladies across the chest (see which ones in the image below.) Available in junior sizes for the little butt-kickers you know!
Hat - $25
Embroidered snapbacks, 'nuff said. Available in night mode.
Patterned Tote - $26
Carry your stuff with sass and panache!
Patterned Tee - $34
Wear this butt-kicking party with pride! Available in junior sizes.
Short Sleeve Buttondown - $64
A nice cotton buttondown with an all-over pattern. Playful and stylish, one might even call it..."kickass." (Get it?) My personal favorite!!
Custom Art - $150
For my highest tier backers, it would be my great honor to depict you (or the person of your choice) kicking a butt! You'll get a print and the digital file.
No need to choose size, color, and cut just yet--after this Kickstarter ends, I'll send out a survey asking you the specifics.
Want more than one thing? No problem!
A few pre-made bundles are now available as backer tiers:
Still can't find your perfect combo? No worries, use the table below to add on any items and build a custom bundle. Just follow these steps:
(1) Select the tier for the most expensive item(s) you want
(2) Increase your pledge for each additional item according to this list (it takes shipping into account):
- Additional digital wallpaper set: Add $1
- Additional mug: Add $20
- Additional trio tee: Add $19
- Additional hat: Add $26
- Additional tote: Add $27
- Additional patterned tee: Add $35
- Additional short sleeve buttondown: Add $65
These prices also apply for any internationally shipped items.
(3) Send me a note letting me know all the items you wanted. (You can contact me by clicking my bio and going to the "contact me" button.)
I'll also be in touch after the campaign ends to double check. (And if I get enough requests for the same bundle type, I'll add it as a backer tier!)
I've estimated fairly conservatively. Anything but the short sleeve buttondown should be safe to receive by Christmas! There's a good chance the short sleeve buttondown will arrive by then too, but given the quirks of shipping, it may be cutting it close.
Hi, I'm Jinjin! Currently based in Brooklyn, NY; originally from the suburbs of Baltimore, MD; and the proud American daughter of Chinese immigrants. By day I'm a User Experience designer at Huge, a digital agency in Brooklyn. I've also always loved to draw, joke, and make comics.
So how did this pattern come to be? It all started this past spring, when I took a Risograph for Activism printmaking class. The class turned out to be a great outlet for me. After the election in November, I was heartbroken and furious to see such a skilled, capable woman get beaten by a completely unqualified boor. It felt like a slap in the face to any woman who has ever had ambition. Luckily the class was the perfect encouragement to channel my anger and frustration into these pictures of women kicking butts with no apology, no obstacle, and no f****s given.
For the class, I put these illustrations into a zine and a poster, which I ended up selling on Etsy. I donated 100% of proceeds to Planned Parenthood. People were liking the poster, so then I tried it out as a pattern on a short sleeve buttondown. I got so many compliments and interest that I decided to try and get these kick-butt ladies even further out into the wider world! One thing led to another, and now I have all the products you can see here as backer tiers.
I'm running this Kickstarter for two big reasons: (1) To fund wholesale orders for the products that require it, and (2) to gauge demand so I can plan for more products in the future.
For the detail lovers out there: A subset of my tiers require wholesale orders; the ones that don't will offset the cost of the ones that do. I've made a budget spreadsheet that includes production costs, shipping, taxes, and fees and run the numbers, so I know if I get funded I'll be able to produce everything with no problem. Just need to get that initial amount to get the ball rolling on production! Running a Kickstarter will also let me see what you guys are into--which products you like, and which I should let go; plus helpful information about sizing.
It's been incredibly exciting to prepare this campaign, and I really love how everything came out with this pattern on it! I hope you do, too.
Special thanks to those who helped me put this campaign together: Jocelyn Chuang and Julia Guo for the fantastic photography; Pilar Torcal, Jay Barbarich, & Laura Ng for being such exuberant models; Huge Studio for being so supportive of an employee's side hustle; and Brendan Schlagel for the moral support and skills in all areas of creative entrepreneurship from marketing to video--he is a true jack-of-all-trades.
Positive vibes & gratitude to all who indicated interest in these ladies and let me know they believed in my work--everyone who signed up for my mailing list, followed me on social media, or gave me real life kudos. You motivated me to put together this campaign, and I'm so excited to see how far we can get in this together.
And finally, to all who visited this campaign: Thanks so much for hearing me out! Hope you consider backing.
Yours in butt-kickery,
Risks and challenges
Design and production: Designs are ready to go, and I’ve already received and quality-checked samples for each reward tier. All rewards are being created using print on demand services. The buttondown shirt will be produced by the service Print All Over Me. T-shirts, totes, & mugs will be produced by the service Printful. The samples from both services look great! Only thing left is to make final orders and ship.
Shipping: Printful will handle t-shirts, totes, mugs, & caps. Generally orders take 2 weeks to ship from their warehouse. Collared shirts will be shipped by yours truly - as soon as I receive my wholesale order from Print All Over Me (~4 weeks) I'll begin putting them in the mail. I have experience shipping prints on a small scale via my Etsy store and I’m confident I’ll be able to handle your rewards.
As for any project, unforeseen hiccups in production or the shipping process could cause some delays in delivery.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
