About this project
ABOUT KIRRIN FINCH
Kirrin Finch is a conscientious clothing company, founded by Brooklyn-based couple Laura Moffat and Kelly Sanders Moffat, that will meet the growing demand for gender-defying fashion by creating menswear-inspired apparel designed to fit a range of female and gender non-conforming bodies. The inspiration for the business was born out of their own frustration at being unable to find clothes that fit their style. As women who gravitate towards button-up shirts and bow ties, they often find themselves envying the clothes in the men's section, yet are frustrated because they don't fit. Laura and Kelly are no longer willing to settle for ill-fitting menswear or overly frilly womenswear, so they have joined the movement that rejects traditional stereotypes and gives people the freedom to be their true selves.

THE BUTTON-UP SHIRT COLLECTION
You'll have the opportunity to select the shirt style and size you want through the post-kickstarter survey. We have 7 long-sleeve options and a limited run of 2 short-sleeve options.
For more detailed information about the shirts and Kirrin Finch, check out our website: www.kirrinfinch.com
Our super soft heather gray contrast pocket t-shirt will be offered in two pocket options: red chambray or pink and blue gingham. This t-shirt is made in the USA from 50% organic cotton and 50% RPET (which is made from plastic bottles - pretty cool, huh?). It's unisex and comes in XS, S, M, L. You'll have the opportunity to pick your color and size once the kickstarter ends using the post-kickstarter survey.
Tote bags always come in handy. This tote is made from 100% organic cotton, and comes with the Kirrin Finch logo on the front and our signature button hole graphic in teal on the back.
We know how important it is to find the right size. This can be especially challenging with online shopping. We hope this size chart will give you an idea of your size. But don't worry if you get your shirt, and you need a different size, we will exchange it for free. Yay for free shipping and returns!
Once we receive your surveys back with your shirt size and color choices, we will commence production at our NYC factory. According to the factory it will take approximately 8 weeks for production. So adding in some quality control checks and shipping time, you should expect to receive your shirts in June.
KIRRIN FINCH MISSION
“We believe fashion can be a way to embrace change and improve our world. That's why we are committed to making ethically-produced clothes that break gender barriers and embrace freedom of expression, while supporting social causes that empower women and the LGBTQ community.”
At Kirrin Finch, giving back is central to who we are as people, and to the core of our company. Mission statements often sound really lofty and pretty on the ears, but you might be thinking to yourself, how do we plan on making it happen? Well, we are happy you asked! We’ve separated the actual execution of all those amazing things into three different areas.
First, is giving Kirrin Finch products to organizations that support our social mission to help them generate funds. For example, we are donating a Kirrin Finch shirt to the silent auction at the Greater NY Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Gala on Feb 6th. Also we will continue to volunteer our time with organizations that fall under our mission statement. We will also donate a portion of our profits once we reach profitability. Does this kinda talk get you excited? Want to know more, shoot us an email, and we’d be happy to talk more about the goals we’ve set to hold ourselves accountable.
Risks and challenges
We’ve tried to do as much decision-making and preparation as possible to mitigate any potential challenges, but doing something new always has its risks and challenges.
These days every brand fits a little bit differently. At Kirrin Finch, we are resisting many of the tenets seen with fashion brands these days, and the same is true with our sizing. We’ve applied “true sizing” to our shirts, because we think vanity sizing is just making clothes shopping down right confusing for people. As a result, our shirts run a little small and your size may be different from what you wear in other brands. So, if you are between two sizes, go for the size up. (Usually an 8 or a 10? Then go for the 10). We have more size options than conventional brands so that you have a better chance of finding a fit that works for your body!
We have a size chart which is simple and easy to use. If you’ve never measured yourself before, take a look at the diagram. If you still have questions, just ask. We would be happy to help! If you live in the New York City area, we will have an event the first week in March where you can come and try on Kirrin Finch shirts so you know what size works best for your body.
And if you order a specific size and it doesn't fit, no need to fret. We have free shipping and returns in the continental US, so we will be happy to exchange it for a different size.
We need our backers to complete their surveys so that we can move into production right after the Kickstarter campaign is finished. Obviously we need your help in this part of the process. So please submit those surveys!
One issue that we’ve seen from other companies on Kickstarter is the amount of time from Kickstarter project end to when customers actually receive their goods.
To mitigate this risk, we already have a factory in New York City ready to produce our shirts, as soon as we give them the go-ahead. They estimate up to 8 weeks for production of our collection of shirts, so as long as you get your surveys in you will receive your goods no later than June.
We already have the fabric necessary to go into production for our goal amount and have established relationships with our suppliers when we need to order more fabric.
