Skate and Date is a rhythm game/dating sim that became a reality due to my love for rhythm games, rollerskating and the 70s! It follows the life of Maggie Price, an athletic, optimistic junior in high school as she develops a crush on Patricia Romano, an outcast at Diamond Park High. Both girls are a part of roller derby teams, but since they’re on different teams it heavily affects their relationship throughout the game.
Choices!...Made through the rhythm game
In rhythm sections, which is during the roller derby competitions/practices you’ll have to dodge past opponents and sometimes interact with Patricia when she’s on the field. By hitting the spacebar to the beat you’ll earn points allowing you to do well during your jam and possibly impress Patricia. You also have the ability to make your own beats( as long as you don’t forget to dodge past enemies!) which will boost your score further. However, you can also lose and if you lose or pass a level while still being mediocre and that choice will affect the story.
All animations are being created in good ol’ Photoshop!
Funky Original Music!
All songs and sounds in the game I’m creating in Logic Pro X!
Here's some of them!
The song for the first level
The Title Theme!
Free Play Mode!
What type of rhythm game would it be if you couldn’t choose to play your favorite songs without the stress of story mode?
There will be the ability to change between the difficulties at any point in the game just like most rhythm games!
The current plans are to have a true ending, a neutral ending and of course a bad ending.
Multiple Save Files!!
You can’t have a story mode without having the ability to save.
Risks and challenges
While creating this game I’ll be finishing up high school and starting college at NYU's Game Center! And that transition may be challenging for me to stay productive and on schedule, but most likely there’d be very few delays if any when it comes to working on the game. Furthermore I’m creating all the assets by myself! Which is a lot, but if anything by having this Kickstarter backed I could get the extra help I need if things get overwhelming.
*This Project is supported by Urban Arts Partnership's School of Interactive Arts (SIA). SIA faculty work closely with student game developers to ensure that they are on schedule and have every necessary resource at their disposal.

**[How does funding go towards these planned features?] Asset creation takes time and skill. Not all assets can be created solely by the developer. Funds go towards hiring creators and towards student expenses incurred while programming and developing the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
