CorkFrame is different. Born from our frustrations with the generic, thin, cheaply made pin boards, we have applied our years of expertise in industrial design to produce a robust, well thought out and desirable cork board, more fitting for our modern environments.
Using state of the art manufacturing techniques, each CorkFrame is cut from a solid block of medium grain cork, which we specifically chose for it’s durability and warm natural finish.
CorkFrame is a place to pin stuff that matters - cherished mementos of the slow life; your favourite picture, that ticket from last years festival which still makes you smile, your best friends wedding invite or that recipe you’ve been meaning to try.
We were very humbled to hear that design legend Sir Terence Conran commented that in his opinion CorkFrame is "a very good idea, everyone needs one, two or three"
Perfect for home and work, CorkFrame is made in three practical sizes to suit different consumer needs and spaces.
CorkFrame is purposefully paired back and beautifully simple - the 48mm/ 1.8” depth of the solid cork presented an ideal opportunity to add an integral shelf to house any loose or important daily items, such as those keys you always struggle to find.
After extensive research, design development and sample production runs, we’ve partnered with the oldest and most respected cork manufacturer in the world. This ensures that every CorkFrame is consistently manufactured to the highest standard. Our partners are a truly innovative company, producing an amazing range of items from the cork stoppers for famous champagne houses, components for space shuttles and the surfboard for the current big wave riding World Champion.
Cork is the bark from the Cork Oak tree and is a phenomenal material. When a tree reaches maturity the bark is carefully harvested by experts using age-old methods, making sure the tree remains totally unharmed and able to re-grow. Over the following 9 years the bark will totally regenerate ready to be harvested again. Making it a truly sustainable FSC approved material.
Included with each CorkFrame is a template we have carefully designed to make it easy to mark and position your board in the perfect spot. You then just fix the brackets to the wall and hang your CorkFrame. It’s as simple as that.
Tip: Our recommended method is the screw fixing, but should you not be able to make holes in walls, there's a product called 3M Command™ which can hold a CorkFrame in place for as long as it needs to be there. They're super strong and easily removed, leaving no trace. Use 4 for the square or 6 for the portrait or landscape.
This Kickstarter campaign is the result of a 2 year design phase, making countless concept models and several rounds of manufacturing sampling; trialling bespoke precision tools, grades of cork, proportions, radius’ and fixing methods until we’ve reached a final design fit for everyday use in our modern environments.
Nothing about CorkFrame falls short. We’re determined to make sure that every aspect of the product is the best it can be. For that reason we’ll supply ample pins to get you going.
We've partnered with Moore Pins from the U.S. - the manufacturer of the original, classic Push Pin. Still made to exacting standards today in Philadelphia, since 1900.
We are also finalising the perfect tin that sits neatly in the cut out shelf.
Our product exists because of a sustainable supply of a wonderful natural material. It's incredibly important for us to create a business that contributes in a positive way to environmental causes.
With this in mind, the business that is created by a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign will donate at least 1% of its annual revenues to the 1% For The Planet Foundation - a fantastic alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthier planet. Here's more from Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia and the 1% For The Planet Foundation - we couldn't agree more:
We have a responsibility to our backers to make sure no matter where you are, your CorkFrame gets to you as safely as possible and also cost effectively. We’ve designed protective packaging made from thick recycled corrugated cardboard to make sure that your item gets to you in pristine condition. Made in Portugal by a great second generation family run business.
Partnering with seasoned international shippers FedEx and DPD, we have also secured the best shipping rates available so that no matter where you are we can get a CorkFrame to you as quickly as possible and for the best price.
We want to make CorkFrame widely accessible. With your help as a backer we’ll be able to fund the minimum order quantity and make CorkFrame a reality. We’re striving to raise enough money to put forth a production of 100 of each size.
Although this is our first project together, between us we have over 15 years experience working with globally renowned retailers and brands - designing, sourcing and retailing high quality products.
A special thanks must go to André, Luis & Joao at Not Found, who helped us to make our film; Emîlia Vale and Alcino Martins for their patience and willingness to get us to the point where we're happy and confident with our product; type designer Michael Ives who worked with us on the CorkFrame identity; Matt Verity for his help with with video production and mutual friend Craig Salter who introduced us to each other without whom this wouldn't have happened. Our girlfriends (Naomi & Maria), friends and family must get a mention too for all the great feedback and patience with us during the project.
If you have any questions either during or after our campaign - don’t hesitate to drop us a message and we’ll reply as soon as possible
John & Noel (Team CorkFrame)
Risks and challenges
All of our manufacturing partners are ready to start, they have years of experience delivering huge projects for international companies so we're confident that we can deliver. We have taken the precaution of allowing time buffers in our schedule so that we don't disappoint. If we can ship your CorkFrame to you earlier than possible we certainly will. Should any timing issues arise, we pledge to communicate them to you in a timely, transparent manner, so you’ll never feel out of the loop.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
