UPDATE 3 (May 25th, 2017): Thank you for reaching out to us and help us to find the new actors for the role "Phoebe" and "Frank".
Kevin, a murder victim turned guardian angel, wakes up with no memory of his past. He is summoned by Phoebe, a self-serving, psychic detective on a dangerous mission. At first tensions are high, but soon their connection deepens and they realize that there might be something more between them. Things seems to be going well…until a series of flashbacks reminds Kevin that he needs to find Nicole, the love of his life who he has found in each lifetime.
In the spirit dimension, Nicole waits for Kevin to save her from permanent death. In the pilot episode, Nicole was sent to the spirit dimension after using a magic pendant to save Kevin’s killer, Aaron. While Nicole waits for a judgment from the King of Hell, Kevin looks for a way to bring her back to the world of the living.
The story is inspired by one of the tales of King Arthur. In this tale, the Lady of the Lake, Nimue, rejects Merlin's love and turns him into a tree, trapping his soul between the lines of life and death. Unlike Merlin, Nimue is a character who trusts in her own judgment rather than believing in prophecy. As a student and lover of Merlin, she learns magic from him, but also fears that Merlin’s power has grown too vast. In many tales, Nimue is known as the lady who determines the fates of Merlin and Arthur and guides them on their quests. In other tales, the Lady of the Lake is named Freya and her character is more innocent and playful, but she still shows undying devotion to Merlin.
In this series, the character of Nicole represents Nimue and the idea of impulsive first love. The character of Phoebe represents Fraya and the idea of a true love which takes more time to be revealed. The story uses ideas from Buddhism to challenge the notion that our first love is the most important.
What is the Recycle Soul?
The idea for Recycle Soul came to me at my friends’ wedding. In their wedding vows, the bride asked her groom to be with her forever, but the groom only said their love would last until "death do us part." In that moment, I questioned my own love life and wondered if the reason I was single might be because I made the same promise to a lover from a past life who died before meeting me.
In Buddhism, every soul undergoes the process of death and rebirth in order to make right the wrongs of the past. Some people believe they can remember parts of their past lives, and use these memories to find purpose in their present one. Kevin’s own memories from a past life inspire him to save Aaron’s soul and find Nicole.
Why invest with us?
Investing in a complete independent film means that you share in the joy and creation of what we are making, and you will be instrumental in helping us bring it to the screen. By investing either your time, word-of-mouth connection, or with financial support, you are aiding us in completing the project and helping us get a step closer to delivering this film to its intended audience.
Like other Crowd Funding platforms, Kickstarter gathers filmmakers to work on projects that do not always fit the traditions or restrictions of a Hollywood film. However, this website offers us a space to share our personal creative ideas with the world by giving us outlets for connections to advertising, funding and distributing.
We can only finish Recycle Soul with your help. Anything you contribute will help ensure that we reach our goal. Support us by donating and then spreading the word to others - share this link,“Like” us on Facebook, Follow us on Instagam or e-mail this Kickstarter link to your friends, family, supporters, co-workers, fellow fans, and anyone else. Be a part of our team!!!
We have asked for the bare minimum in the hope of meeting our target goals. Should we happen to raise more than the requested amount, additional funds will be put towards marketing and increased screening opportunities. Every member of 'The Recycle Soul' team has worked for free. This is a project that the whole team feels very deeply about. Every penny raised will go toward the actual costs of filmmaking.
Since this project is made possible by the worldwide donations, we believe that it will be beneficial to put this series on iTunes. The plan is to put out a new episode website every Friday, starting In September of 2017.

Hazel Ahn as Nicole
Despite strong pressure to ditch an acting career and embark on attending a strong school, Hazel initially expressed an interest in acting when she was twelve. She had dreams of being in movies, undeterred by the lack of Asian American role models and actors. Nevertheless, sensing potential, her mother originally pushed Hazel Ahn into the world of runway modeling.
"After being featured in a seventh grade school play as Hero from Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, my mom tried to get me into modeling!" she recalls. Though when she did not grow tall enough at around the age of sixteen, Hazel's mother warily began supporting her acting ambitions. "I was really at a loss as to what to study when it came time to submit college applications," Hazel remembers, "but I received full grants and scholarships to be a drama student at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine and that was when my mom no longer had any doubts or fears about my acting career. We were finally on the same page!"
After Hazel attended a few auditions, she found nearly instant success in commercials including for Eucerin Skin Lotion, Squatty Potty, and Kaiser Permanente. She also landed a major role in the 2014 short film Good Night Papa, which filmed during her school's winter break in San Francisco. Her performance earned her her first breakout lead credit.
