About this project
is the 3rd installment of my Queer Film Action, The Way of the World.
Multiple digital projections along with 16mm and Super 8 found celluloid film footage combine with live performance in this sometimes witty and sometimes biting call to nonconformity and anti-militarism. Stand-alone it will run about 30 minutes and the complete The Way of the World runs about 90 minutes.
THE LIVE FILM PERFORMANCE
takes place in a conventional film setting: projectors/audience/screen. However, there are several people who are interacting with the audience in a very, well, uh, filmic way. And there’s some super 8 film being projected on smaller, “home movie” screens. (one of these Super 8 films is called "Pinning a Buddy." )
The first two parts (including See Something, Say Something and The Mystery School have been presented in the last few years at: MIX NYC, The Arsenal in Berlin, Anthology Film Archives, T.I.E. in Denver, Bafici in Buenos Aires, Moviate, Berks Filmmakers, and Diego's place in Williamsburg.
of the piece deals with the two issues that I feel are the most significant social occurrences affecting Queer consciousness in the past 50 years: the failed media response to the implications of the A.I.D.S. epidemic on sexual identities, and the bizzare compulsion to assimilate into a normative, warrior hetero-culture.
"IN YOUR FACE"
has been my aesthetic for the last forty years of filmmaking. I find that it's particularly helpful in warding off those annoying mass media industrial ideas that are specifically designed to thwart the Queer imagination and stifle dissent. People who are "offended" by visible expressions of Queer Love usually seem to lack imagination so there's no reason to try to placate them with Art. My Cinema practice is best seen and enjoyed by Queers and our friends, supporters, and loves.
I’M VERY GRATEFUL
for the people and institutions that have encouraged and exhibited my work over the last four decades.....and
I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP NOW
in raising the money to premiere this last installment of The Way of the World this Fall with three FABULOUS collaborators who are working in and on the piece with me. We need to purchase new lighting (orange, lavender, and lime green), pay the lab for new 16mm print material, buy additional props (gasmasks, rubber suits, etc), rent several projectors, sweeten the sound, and buy more supplies (vinegar, paper towels, and so on).
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANKS!!!!!!!
Please be sure to watch the video and visit my website to see some images and get more information!
The Vinegar Virus is not actually a "virus," but a syndrome called "triacetate deterioration." Due to improper storage conditions, heat and humidity induce a chemical reaction that causes the emulsion ( and thus the image) to deteriorate.
