What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

Why Does this Project Exist?

Giant monsters have always been a big part of my life, and ever since I was a little kid I always dreamt of being able to create my own Monsters. Over the past few years kaiju have come back to the forefront of the public psyche with movies such as Godzilla (2014) and Pacific Rim. While I enjoyed both movies the one problem I have with most Hollywood movies now is that they all seem to use the same type of giant monster. The four-legged Cloverfield monster has become a staple in most giant monster movies. I decided that I was tired of seeing the same type of creatures repeatedly, so I went and created Titanicus.

Who is Titanicus?

Titanicus is a kaiju, a giant monster, who first appeared in 1912 attacking and destroying the infamous RMS Titanic. The large spike on his back was mistaken for the iceberg that was mistakenly blamed for the ships disasterous first voyage.  Most who survived the attack assumed it was an iceberg, as who could believe that a giant monster rose from the depths of the ocean to sink the unsinkable ship.  What we wanted from this kaiju was a modern look, but at the same time keep the classic man in suit look. We also understand that you want to know who the monster is therefore we will include with each figure a short 8-page origin comic. There also will be a full 24-page comic available.

Why is This Figure Special?

Titanicus is the first monster created by Titanic Creations LLC but we have plans to create many more and in fact have a second monster already in the design cue.  We plan an ongoing comic series with the monsters introduced with origin comics included with the figures and then appearing in our full size comic books.  We also have other items in the design cue to compliment our line of giant monsters.  Stay tuned to updates for exciting news!

The figures that we are going to produce are at their core a piece of artwork. Well known 3D artist and kaiju enthusiast Dopepope (https://www.artstation.com/dopepope) did the entire sculpt on Titanicus. There is not one millimeter of this figure that has not been sculpted with the utmost attention to detail. The figure very in line with what you would expect from X-Plus’s kaiju figures, but Titanicus has much deeper texture. The paint job and cast are both done by a carefully selected factory, so we already know the quality of figure that will produce. The dimensions on this figure are also quite impressive, Titanicus stands at 30 cm tall and over 70 cm long. When you get this figure, you will be absolutely blown away by the quality and you will have a unique piece to add to your collection.

Where Will The Money Go?

Your money will go to producing the figures. That entails creating the molds, we need to create a total of seven molds which will cost us $21,700. The rest of the money will go to assembling the figure and painting the figure which costs $36 per figure. The rest of our funding will go to Kickstarter and their fees. There is also a visual representation of this budget above.
