About this project
Hello, my name is Alex Wakefield and I am a fine artist out of Joliet, IL. My passion and inspiration for my work has been so directly linked with motorsports that it's hard to know which started first. Did my love for fast moving machinery inspire me to create, or did my love for drawing and painting inspire me to make art based on motorsports? Either way, this is what I love, and I hope to make it a larger part of my career. With your help, this is where my Kickstarter campaign can make that a possibility.
About this project:
After a successful show at the Chicago D|Store, I have been invited by the two California D|Stores to show my work in a touring exhibition this August.
At each D|Store location, the art exhibit will coincide with that weekends televised MotoGP race. The exhibit dates are as follows:
D|Store Orange County - August 16-18 Indianapolis MotoGP
D|Store San Francisco - August 23-25 Czech MotoGP
It is up to me to come up with the funding to get me and my art to these locations.
I will produce 15 works of art. They will consist of both paintings and illustrated pieces. I have already completed 7 pieces, more than half of the work to achieve this goal, and I will continue to work diligently.
I know I have the ability and tenacity to reach my goal. The biggest obstacle will be the financial. The cost of materials, meaning everything from paint and canvas to scanning and print creation, as well as the support costs, such as living expenses and transportation for myself and my work, is going to amount to $5000. Your contribution can help make my goal a reality.
I have spent the last year taking the needed steps to build notoriety for my work. I am full of optimism that, with your help, I can build on that investment in my career. My family and I thank you for taking the time to look at my work and listen to my vision.
Risks and challenges
I know that when embarking on a task like this there are a myriad of pitfalls that can happen. Meeting the set timeline for completing all 15 pieces is the first concern. I will be posting updates on here to keep my backers informed that I am on time for the show to go off as planned.
The second concern is making sure that all of the pieces are scanned and prints are ready to be shipped arriving in time for the show on August 16th in California. If the prints are not ready for the first show, customer information and payment would be taken the weekend of the event and the prints would be signed, numbered and shipped by me immediately once available.
The last concern- although maybe most important- is that my wife and I are anxiously anticipating the arrival of our first child in early September, which would obviously necessitate postponing my trip for the next race on the schedule The main concern here would be scheduling with an airline that will allow a transferable ticket for the next race weekend, whatever that may be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
