This is Nicholas Gathany, the artist behind Caleidisco.
Making music from thousands of small samples sourced from all over the musical spectrum is no small undertaking. It's a lot of intimidating detail work that most artists would never dare try! This creative dedication opens up infinite possibilities for creating new worlds of music, sound, and visual art. This is what I do to create something unique, magical and new for us to experience... both nostalgic and simultaneously alien.
It's what I love to do and I'm good at it. Unfortunately the current industry climate is both exclusionary and unforgiving to artists like me and I struggle deeply with financially justifying the time needed to create like this. It has always been at my own expense with no financial incentive involved. In order to continue making music I need to support my family, yet still find a way to spend the time necessary to experiment and create the best work that I can.
This is a fundraiser for the time needed to finish material for a 25-30 minute EP that all began from unreleased and unfinished sessions that date back to the beginning of Caleidisco in 2005, when it was still called Coloringbook. A project conceived as sampledelic synesthesia music, with each song named after an imaginary new color (that you must hear to see!). These songs were intended for last year's full-length album Infinite Variations of Black & White, but weren't finished enough and there was just too much material to include it all.
If I can reach my budget goal thanks to your support, love, gratitude and generosity, the album will be released COMPLETELY FREE as digital download on either Bandcamp or Ektoplazm.com (likely both) under a Creative Commons Attribution license. I will be Mixing & Mastering everything myself as always. If I cannot reach my budget goal, I will unfortunately have to shelve the project indefinitely, not at all by choice, but out of necessity to take care of life priorities :(

 Red & Green
 Orange & Black
This is will be a free digital release, but actual physical CD releases may come in the future. Right now I'm trying to keep the budget modest and at a bare minimum so I can get this finished & released to you. Please help make this dream a reality!
The video below is just a handful from the thousands of sources, carefully edited for seamless music creation.
Risks and challenges
I want to release the album in May. If it takes any longer than that, it would be late May release instead of early May, but absolutely no later than by the end of May if I do meet my funding goal.
I have the inspiration, ideas, and creative energy to get this project finished. This kind of work requires dedication, experimentation, and love. I foresee no difficulty in bringing the album to completion with my budget goal. The album is roughly 75-80% complete and I only need to afford the time and attention required to bring these songs to a beautiful completion. Creating, mixing, and mastering; this is all comfortable territory for me. I love to do it and everything should go smoothly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
