About this project
"Ronin Revolver" is an anthology western series, set in a pseudo-U.S. structure. Starting in early 2012, the anthology will be posted for free on the web and feature varying characters from ronin to soldiers to vagrants. Some stories will be about morality. Others, just plain fun and action. All will deepen the mythology of the universe and be character-driven.
Characters define what makes a good or bad western, these characters’ motives being the driving force behind the story. Whether for power, money, or land, motives bring actions that can still be envisioned today. Who could forget the moment in the movie “Unforgiven” when Clint Eastwood’s character abandoned his sobriety in favor of revenge, stepping with unflinching calm into a saloon where Gene Hackman and his cohorts celebrate the death of Eastwood’s character’s friend.
My western is not a typical one. With a fusion of Old Western America and Samurai cultures that blend during a time when much of the world was untamed, this pseudo-America progresses into the modern, leaving behind out-dated traditions. Unfortunately for the samurai, that means favoring the bullet over the sword. Gunmen replace the samurai, who, now masterless, must roam in search of work and food. Because of this, they’re whittled down to the core essence of their character.
Funds received for this book will go towards the compensating the illustrator for his all of his hard work on the first three months worth of stories. A new issue will be put out every two weeks, for a total of 6 issues. The more gained, the greater the output of work - it only takes a little to go a long way.
Updates will be posted regularly, but if you wish for a more in-depth look into what’s coming, visit http://ronin-revolver.blogspot.com.
Ronin Revolver is a samurai western anthology, set in a fantasy world inspired by the United States expansion to the west in the 1800s. It has samurai, cowboys, horse-thieves, and land-barons.
The series takes place in the fantasy country of Torii. The country is still forming, expanding into the the Outer Territories, which are in the west. The Eastern Rim States take on a more refined culture, while the Outer Territories are less tamed.
The character epitomize certain archetypes of behavior or characteristics. One such character is the Entertainer, who is very active, showy. The Knight values his code of honor highly, not breaking it in any way and being very chivalrous. Most will go unnamed, letting their actions or words define who they are.
